Zardari taken millions bribe in French submarine deal
Zardari received millions as kickback in French submarine deal: Report

PARIS, France, 10 November 2009 (DPA) - Pakistani [PPP] president Asif
Ali Zardari is suspected of having received millions of dollars in
kickbacks from the 1994 sale of three French submarines to the
Pakistan Navy, the daily Liberation [newspaper based in Paris, France]
reported Tuesday.

Islamabad, Nov.11 (ANI): Trouble for Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari seems to be expanding with each passing day as he has now been accused of receiving millions of dollars in kickbacks during the purchase of three submarines from France in 1994.

According to a report in a leading French newspaper, investigations have revealed that Zardari received 4.3 million dollars in kickbacks from the sale of three Agosta 90 submarines for 825 million euros (approx. 1.237 billion dollars at current exchange rate).

The newspaper said that Pakistani National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was alerted about the massive scam way back in 2001.

The British authorities told the NAB that Zardari had received several large payments into his Swiss bank accounts from a Lebanese businessman, Abdulrahman el-Assir, during 1994 and 1995.

According to a former official of French naval defence company DCN, French authorities had selected Assir to act as intermediary in the deal, The Nation reports.

He allegedly deposited a total of 1.3 million dollars in Zardari's bank accounts between August 15 and 30, 1994, a month before the submarine deal was finalised. An additional 1.2 million dollars and 1.8 million dollars were deposited in Zardari's account a year later.

The newspaper report also revealed that investigators believe that the non-payment of the full amount of the agreed kickbacks may have led to the deaths of 11 French national in a suicide attack in Karachi in 2002. (ANI)

This report is taken from French newspaper.

Folks, I feel sympathy with your state of mind. Don't close your eyes and hide your head into the sand and think you are safe.
Zardari is a corrupt leader and well known for such deals. Why don't Zardari come out and tell people where did he get this money from. What is source of that money deposited in his account on said dates.

I don't want to defend Zardari because his past is not clean. But I have a question "why French government not investigate the company who gave kickback. Is there no law in France to control corruption?"

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-N chief Nawaz Sharif demanded on Thursday a thorough probe into allegations of kickbacks of millions of dollars in the purchase of three French submarines in 1994.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ISLAMABAD: The government prepared a money laundering reference against PML-N leaders Mian Nawaz Sharif and Mian Shahbaz Sharif in 2000 on the basis of a statement recorded by one of their trusted lieutenants, Senator Ishaq Dar, according to a court document seen by Dawn here on Thursday.

Senator Darís handwritten statement, given before a magistrate back on April 25, 2000, had alleged that Sharif brothers used the Hudaibya Paper Mills as cover for money laundering during the late 1990s.

ISLAMABAD: Itís a scandal and a label that refuses to go away. Allegations of kickbacks to the tune of ten per cent on government deals have come back to haunt the beleaguered president.

But the investigations do not come from within Pakistan but have been unearthed by a French court and released in French newspaper Liberation.

Standing by his story, French journalist Guillaume Dasquie says: ĎToday we are absolutely sure that Mr Zardari received a lot of kickbacks from this contract signed in September 1994, with DCN, the builder of the submarine.í

Mr. Asif Ali Zardari should immediately leave office and a thorough investigation should be ordered to ascertain the truth.

You are asking too much out of way from all these corrupts. They have no character, morals & selfrespect to leave theirselves. It is for us as a Nation & for the courts to decide their fate.Any1 being involved, accused or convicted in corruptions shouldn,t be allowed to hold or run for the public office untill & unless proven innocent.

what you are suggesting is totally illegal and against the univesally accepted norms and civility. everybody is innocent until proven guilty. the burden of proof is on the accuser not the defendant.

If they have moral courrage & character they should theirselves goes to the court.Inspite of coming from the "CHOR DARWAZA",striking illegal, immoral & out of way deals.ALLAH Hamd Do Lillah we were,we are & we will be legal. But all those corrupt, plunderer, looterers & Chors are Illegal. One should have a moral courrage to call "Spade a Spade & not a spoon".Whether they should accept their crimes, repent & return back the plundered wealth of this kept poor Nation Or they will be thrown out of their offices by the Grace of ALMIGHTY ALLAH.Like I always said"Man Proposses & ALLAH disposses".No one is indespencible & above the Law.

Asif Ali Zardari is much much better than Nawaz Sharif. His 1st mistake is that he did not confined Nawaz Sharif into jail. Its the broad heart of Zardari that if pardoned Nawaz Sharif. Zardari remained in jail for more than 8 years just only because of Nawaz Sharif. His second mistake is that he belongs to Sindh. History shows in pakistan rulers from small provinces are accepted by all means in one special part of country. For detail see the where Liaqat Ali khan, Bhutto, and Benazir were killed. One thing is very clear. Zardari is a president appointed by the people of Pakistan not by some one mercy and Inshallah will remain president untill the people of pakistan want him. No paper lion can prey him.
