Installation and configuration->file association
------------------------------------------------

Copy in_mp3s.dll to the \Plugins directory of your Winamp installation.
Usually this is something like c:\Program Files\Winamp5\Plugins

Start Winamp.

Go to the 'Winamp Preferences' dialog by either pressing 'CTRL+p' or
by selecting 'Options'->'Preferences' in the menu.

Under 'Plug-ins'/'Input' you should find an entry
'Fraunhofer IIS Mp3 Surround Decoder V2.0.0 [in_mp3s.dll]'.

You now need to associate the MP3 surround plugin with mp3 files:
Select the standard MP3 decoder plugin, called 'Nullsoft MPEG Audio Decoder'
and press 'Configure'.

In the 'File Association' box remove the Extension 'MP3' and press 'OK'.

Winamp configuration->Sound Output
----------------------------------

In order to enable correct multichannel audio playback in Winamp, you have to
ensure that 'DirectSound output' is highlighted in the 'Plug-ins'/'Output' section.
Make sure that in the configuration dialog of the 'DirectSound output' the check box
'Allow hardware acceleration' is enabled.

Windows configuration
------------------------------

Ensure that your speaker setup in the Windows Control Panel is set to 5.1 speakers in the
'Sounds and Audiodevices' tab.

Deinstallation
------------------------------

A:
If you want to disable the use of the mp3 surround plugin temporarily, simply add
the entry 'MP3' in the 'File Association' box of the standard 'Nullsoft MPEG Audio Decoder'
again (see above).

B:
If you want to completely remove the mp3 surround plugin, highlight the
'Fraunhofer IIS Mp3 Surround Decoder V1.1' in the 'Plug-ins'/'Input' section and press
'Uninstall plug-in'.
Caution! This will delete in_mp3s.dll from the \Plugins directory.
Do not forget to reassociate the playback for mp3 files in the standard 'Nullsoft MPEG Audio decoder' (like in step A).

Plugin configuration
------------------------------

By selecting 'Configure' in the 'Plug-ins'/'Input' dialog of the Fraunhofer mp3 surround plugin,
you can select 5.1 playback over loudspeakers, 5.1 over stereo headphones with Ensonido or legacy MP3 stereo playback.
In the latter case, the plugin will then act as a standard mp3 stereo or mono decoder.

When the plugin is set to Ensonido playback, you can choose between 4 different modes for surround sound simulation
on headphones.

This settings can be changed on the fly, while an MP3 Surround file is playing.

You can enable the ID3-parsing for displaying artist and title in
the playlist. When disabled, only the filenames are shown in the playlist.

By right-clicking on the current file in the playlist and selecting 'View file info', or by pressing 'Alt+3' a
file information dialogue is shown.
Apart from the ID 3 information, bitrate and sample rate, you can see if the current file is MP3 Stereo, MP3 Surround
or MP3 Surround eXtended.

Known restrictions
------------------------------

No ID3 editing is supported, parsing only.
No support for streaming of mp3 files.
