| Where are we heading...Pakistan future...? |
|
The million dollar question we face is where are we heading?
Biggest problem we face is the lack of clarity on the issues the country faces, you will have your list, I will have my own list & some one else will have their own list & priorities attached to it. To make the issue complex, we all would have our own ways to deal with the issues, often different solutions are discussed/persuaded for the same problem.
In Pakistan, people generally want to be seen as good Muslims. They do not practice it, is another matter. Secular, anti-religion thoughts have never become popular here as an ideological framework. However, it is also a fact that generally all oppose Taliban version of Islam, including people of NWFP, some support them more on the basis of their family ties, tribal values than on religion - a simple fact, but often overlooked.
We need not to convince each other how bad Taliban were, we all agree on that point. What as a nation we disagree is how to deal with them. Certainly, I am strong critic of using forces/army - should only be used in the most un-avoidable situations under direct civil-control (not giving the army a free hand). I know, you may smile and say what if they are bombing the schools, music shops, etc.
Well, aren't we learn to live with similar terrorism in Karachi (I agree there is no comparision of scale of threat in 2 situations).
I emphasize; education combined with economic prosperity is the way to go, though bit long term but is the only way. Its army which wants us to believe in these quick fixes, so that we continue to have high defense budget. To me an equally important discussion is our defense policy. What is our strategy: defensive or offensive?
If defensive, then we do not need an army of 600k army men, only a fraction of it with the nuclear warheads should be able to provide defence to us. If our strategy is offensive, then do we still hope to get Kashmir by force? God help us. As a matter of fact, who is our enemy country, Israel at least categorically announce few countries (Saudi Arab, Irqa, etc) as their enemy states, which are enemy states to us now ?
But if we continue spending huge sums in the name of defense, our rulers continue to take 100+ people in their foreign trips, etc - where will you get the money to spread the education, school, tourism, & other healthy activities?
Restoration of juditionary is a very small step - but it indicates is our government prepare to head in the right direction - its a kind of enabler. its not the destination, its what will bring you close to destiny.
well, there is so much that I can write...

| GOING TOWARDS NOWHERE |

All I can say is that at present I don't see pakistan going anywhere.I am not a pessimest but am afraid don't see any destination. They say 'A journey of thousand miles begins with a single step' I do agree but you need to be clear about your destination and that we can't have unless we change the drivers,if you know what i mean?
