Thackeray calls for Hindu suicide bombers to target Muslims

MUMBAI: A radical right-wing Indian politician, Bal Thackeray, called on Hindus to form suicide bomber squads and attack Muslim neighbourhoods to combat Islamic terrorism - a threat promptly condemned by political friends and foes alike.

Thackeray, a Hindu extremist linked to past waves of mob violence in the western state of Maharashtra, has long advocated attacks against Muslims. “Islamic terrorism is on the rise. To combat this, Hindu terrorism must be created of similar strength,” Thackeray wrote in an editorial published Wednesday in Saamna, the newspaper of his Shiv Sena party. The editorial was unsigned, but his party said Thackerary wrote it.

“Hindu suicide squads must be built,” he wrote. “Only then will Hindus survive.”

The Shiv Sena - which means Shiva’s Army - is among the most extreme of India’s Hindu political parties and held power in Mumbai from 1995 to 2000. Traditionally, the party’s main aim has been to keep people who are not from Maharashtra out of the state and to stem the spread of Islam.

Thackeray said he was “happy” that Hindus were behind a recent theatre attack, but displeased that innocent Hindus were injured - and that the bomb itself was so weak. “Instead of planting faulty bombs, they should have planted a stronger bomb in these mini-Pakistans,” he said.

Thackeray’s editorial came ahead of Shiv Sena’s 42nd anniversary on Thursday. It was promptly condemned by politicians from across the political spectrum, including India’s leading Hindu nationalist party, the Bharatiya Janata Party, which has long-standing ties with Shiv Sena. ap

let me just say that although suicide bombing is a condemnable act; but I would agree to inayat that looking at the nature of hindus especially indians they dont have courage to blow themselves up for the cause of a religion which makes no logic to life; hindus who get educated they are no more hindus as they indulge in every kind of foreign or non religious act. People who are not educated they are hindus, and they are hindus just because they are not educated so they dont have reasoning power to understand that there is no logic behind this religion, as its all based on myth. So I dont think someone would be that non sense to give away his/her life for hinduism, well they might do it for country as they are more nationalists than religious atleast thats what they call themselves "secular", and some 4-5 years back everyone used to read through the news paper the next day when india loses to Pakistan in cricket that there would be atleast 3-4 cases of suicides or heart attacks as a response.

Fundamentalists like him are very scary. Given enough brain washing, anything is possible. Thackary in power is an alarming situation. I would be very worried!

We should not be worried but it is a matter of concern for all those who condemn any & every type of extremism.When someones act as a radicals or extremists he leaves behind his religion.I don,t believes in terms Islamic,Chrystian,Jewish or Hindu fundamentalist etc.The fact is it is not the religion to teach us to discriminate others rather the individuals turn fanatics & missinterpret the real message of their religion or use it for their personal/political interests & benefits.

Unfortunately, this is way too common and religions have not figured out how to stop their own extremists who misquote and misinterpret some scripture for social and political gain. As a rule of thumb, their first victims are the 'losers' people who have not achieved something and fed up with thier lives. They are given 'acceptance' at the cost of surrendering to be mindless drones.

Extremists and fundamentalists in every religion claim to be the same -- you guessed it - They are showing the 'right' path and living & acting per scriptures, enforcing their viewpoint with violence. It is upto ordinary people to come up with how to shun the extremists push them back.

This is the way to think & realise.It is only thinking rational eg.I am a practical Muslim(Trying my best to be) but I am asked even to hit someone(Killing is the biggest crime,even in Islam killing one humanbeing is like killing whole humanity)from other religion I will get skeptical of my own religion.But in reality there is no one religion to teach us to do anything bad it is infact we human beings what we gets out of it.But I condemn one thing any one commit any crime or terrorism is called Islamic Terrorist(Like I said b4 fanatism is leaving behind one religion)Where as never heard of Chystian,Jewish,Hindus fundamentalist etc.Which offend us as a Muslims we dissowned any kind of violence & terrorism even done by any socalled Muslim.We cannot say that Hitler was a Chrystian extremest or in Ireland between Chrystians violence were never labelled as Chystian fundamentalism or extremeism.And we have many other examples we leave it because it will take us to another discussion.There should not be any double standards & religious hate.
