| PTCL Employees And Itisalat At Loggerheads |
|
Islamabad -- The authorities in Pakistan have become active to sort out the issues relating to Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation Limited [PTCL] after the emergency and one-point agenda visit of Abdullah Bin Zaid Alnihan, the Foreign Minister of United Arab Emirates [UAE]. The high level consultative meeting continued on Friday in this regard.
According to the sources, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, the Prime Minister, and Asif Ali Zardari, cochairman of Pakistan People's Party [PPP] have directed the concerned authorities that this issue should be resolved before their return from the US visit.
According to the sources, when the PTCL employees took over the headquarters, the Itisalat Administration immediately contacted its own government realizing the tense situation. At this the UAE Government immediately dispatched Abdullah Bin Zaid Alnihan, the Foreign Minister on a chartered plane, who met the President immediately after his arrival here. He told that after his guarantee, the Itisalat has invested billions of dollars in Pakistan and if his government did not immediately resolve the issue, all the UAE investment companies will closed down their projects. After this the UAE foreign minister met Asif Ali Zardari and the prime minister over this agenda and informed him about his concerns.
The sources informed that the government has assured the foreign minister that a ministerial committee was looking into the matter and it would resolve it. The UAE foreign minister showed his distrust over the ministerial committee and said that Asif Ali Zardari and the prime minister should themselves look into the matter.
According to the sources, a high profile meeting was held in this regard on Friday, in which Asif Ali Zardari said that the issue should be resolved as soon as possible
