President asks nation to stand united against extremists
ISLAMABAD, July 19: President Gen Pervez Musharraf on Thursday urged the nation to stand united against extremists to defeat them, as these elements were a threat to the country.

“The challenge needs to be faced with courage, but one person alone cannot do it. I cannot do it alone, neither the police, nor the army can do it alone, unless the people of the country support it,” he told a gathering of thousands of students from all over Punjab here at the Convention Centre.

The event was held to award Rs20,000 in cash to each of 3,000 students who had completed training from Vocational Training Institutes of Punjab, to help them start work in their respective trades under the Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal's Rehabilitation Scheme.

“Only a few misguided elements are bent upon killing their fellow innocent Muslims by either blowing themselves up or blasting explosives-laden vehicles against them.

“What type of Islam is this? Who said Islam means to kill fellow Muslims? Are they serving its cause?” he asked.

President Musharraf, however, vowed to face the challenge and defeat these extremists.

“Almighty Allah will help us, as this country has been created with His blessings for the Muslims of the Sub-continent and He will help us get rid of these extremists,” the President said.

He said such acts of these extremist elements would hurt the country's economy.

“We have to take the country forward and with extremist activities, all economic achievements made over the years will go waste,” he added.

The President mentioned the turnaround the country's economy had witnessed over the past eight years, adding that trade relations and investments had significantly improved.

He said the country now had enough resources and was spending huge amounts on development projects and utilising the money for the welfare of the masses

The President, on this occasion, announced doubling of the programme, saying that now at least 50,000 students would be able to get training in the Punjab Vocational Institutes in a variety of trades.

He also announced an additional amount of Rs500 million for the Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM) to help finance the project.

“This is not all, we have the capacity to provide more resources and will continue to support the PBM in its efforts to help the poor stand on their own feet,” he added.

He regretted that governments in the past either lacked commitment or had no resources to help the masses stand on their own feet and initiate development activity.

The President said that the government was tackling the issue of poverty on different fronts, adding that it was very important that the youth learned necessary skills and use these to earn a decent living for themselves and their families. He admitted that one of the negative aspects of a growing economy was that prices of essential commodities had increased because of increasing demand. He claimed that the government was spending billions of rupees in subsidies to provide basic items to the needy at affordable prices.

He said 6000 Utility Stores outlets would become functional by the end of the year.

Later, the President handed over cheques for Rs20,000 each among the students.—

Gen Musharaf made a mistake inviting people to stand against extremists.

Supreme Court decision reinstating its Chief Justice Iftikar Choudhary with the support of people of Pakistan is First example.

Mr President ! People have now stood up against extremists toula, i.e., US President Bush, Vice President Chenny, Condoliza Rice, Gen. Musharaf.

Ramsfield & Blair are alrady out of their barbaric game. Bush and home party will be out in one year - where you stand ? Na ghar ka na ghat ka

Attack on GEO, Introducing Nepra and regulations, stopping TV Channels broadcastings, killing of journalists, stopping media to cover Lal Masjid casualties and one sided reports, sending Chief Justice at home, slogans against Chief Justice by Punjab & Sindh Chief Ministers, negative campaign against Chief Justice, thousands such examples - what freedom this government has given ?

You are not interested to know whats happening in country ? Media is doing its routine job. How many clarifications and justifications at all levels govt have given on GEO attack and Lal Masjid attacks. Why there was any need to give clarifications and lies by the govt. ?

If TV chanels are allowed in Pakistan, what is big thing in that Which poor person is the owner of any channel. Can you do any thing in Pakistan with out giving percentage to any one sitting in top positions. Who gets any license in Pakistan even rifle or pistol license OR any industry license ?

And when you say that President has asked people to stand against extremists. People are already on the road along with Chief Justice against extremist policies adopted by Pervez Musharaf and his group now lead by Bush, Chennyand Rice. two major leaders Blair & Ramsfield are already sacrificed.

Its a game of these politicians sitting in power and whom they have to oblige. Its not a privelage to any common person, what talk about freedom. Chief Justice of Pakistan was running around for justice and his freedom, how a common person can dream.

Be afraid the day nation is united Reply with quote
If nation becomes united what will happen to the EXTREMISTS and their supporters.

Bush, Chenny, Rice, Blair, Ramsfield and Mush are the pillars of Terrorism in the world. Two gone Ramsfield and Blair - rest in queue. Better they all leave before Nation becomes united and stand.

Please add the correct terrorists on your list. Reply with quote
When we talk about EXTREMISTS and their supporters, then we shuold NOT fotget about:
Altaf Hussain (MQM Leader)
He killed many thousands innocents people in Karachi and rest of province Sindh.

I wonder that why, why, why this person who ONLY focus on Musharraf always Question Now that is a big question mark for me Exclamation That he have all the Terrorists on his list, but why always not writing any comments on this biggest terrorist in Pakistan`s history Question I am NOT into the favour of Genral Musharraf, but Altaf Hussain done more terrorists activities than Musharraf. That is true. Dosen`t matter for me wheather this mister is agree with me or not. Because I am also an Pakistani and keep eye over Pakistan`s situation for a long time wheather I am into Pakistan or abroad. Musharraf is NOT my uncle nor any familiy member, but when some one always blame him whith every new thread and keep it go further, then I`m getting shock that why the focus is on only 1 man wich is Genral Musharraf Sahab Shocked What about others... Question Those even are not physically in polititions but they living abroad and via their messages many innocents people being kill whenever they wants.
I try my best to keep quite. But after all enough is enough and I cannot read posts against only 1 man who getting all the blames "Genral Musharraf" (Musharraf toh siraf eik mohra hai, assal mujrim toh koi aur hein) Please go on if you people call me fool its OK, lets me fool if I try to correct that Musharraf is NOT the main person who deviding Pakistan there are other main person who are behind this dangerous game!

I think that Musharaf is not a terrorist of lower degree as compared to Iltaf Hussain because he is not killing pakistanis only in Karachi but all over Pakistan. And let us not forget that he has given the powers to Iltaf hussain to rule on sindh. He is the one who is behind the missing persons case in Pakistan and he is handing over innocent people to America who are living the rest of their lives in Guantanamo Bay.And after all he has all the powers so why shouldn't we blame Musharaf for all that is happening in Pakistan?

Wisdon and brain should replace emotions and anger Reply with quote
I think if we need to replace our negative emotion/ anger with wisdom and brain, then we can do every thing.

Bush, Cheney may be good or bad but surely they are not killing innocent Paksitanis,

it is the extermist who are carrying suicide bombing against Pakistan and Pakistanis.

Therefore, we should stand united agains terrorism. Swat was a beautiful valley and Inshallah very soon it will again be the same.

All terrorist will be hunt down.

Yes, we have to get united to root out this terrorist activites. But to get united is difficult thing for us because every body is so different and every body is dead confident in his/her rightousness, regardless of the reallity.

I think we have to come out of this sterotype thinking that others are wrong. To achieve this government brought "National Political Reconciliation Act", but sadly speaking that has be jeoperdized for small political gains by all political parties.

I think, every body has fallen in love with himself/herself and his/her perception. We have to come out of this state if we really want to be a one strong and good nation.
