Pervez Musharraf (Urdu: پرويز مشرف) (born 11 August 1943, Delhi) is the current President of Pakistan, and former Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan Army. He came to power in 1999.He has been actively supported (through military and monetary aid) by western countries including the United States. He took power on October 12, 1999, ousting Nawaz Sharif, the elected Prime Minister, dismissed the national and provincial legislative assemblies, declared martial law, assumed the title of Chief Executive and became Pakistan's head of government, thereby becoming the fourth Army chief of Pakistan to have assumed executive control. Later in 2001, Musharraf appointed himself to the office of President of Pakistan.

On November 24, 2007, the Pakistan Election Commission confirmed his re-election as President.

EARLY LIFE:

Pervez Musharraf was born in Nahr wali Haveli, situated in Kacha Saad Ullah Mohallah, Daryaganj in Delhi, British India.He is from a family of bureaucrats. After Musharraf's grandfather, Qazi Mohtashimuddin, retired as the commissioner of undivided Punjab he bought Neharwali Haveli in the old walled city of Delhi where Musharraf was born. The haveli, with its high roofs and arches, is believed to have been the home of a "Wazir" (Minister) in the court of Bahadur Shah Zafar-the last Mughal emperor of the 18th century.After partition, Musharraf's family migrated to Pakistan where his father, Syed Musharraf Uddin-a graduate of Aligarh University-joined the Pakistan foreign service and later retired as Secretary of foreign affairs. Musharraf's mother, Zarin, received her master's degree from the University of Lucknow in 1944. She recently retired from the UNO agency in ISB.

He revealed in his memoirs that he was critically injured after falling from a mango tree as a teenager, and he considers this his first direct experience with death.

Musharraf attended Saint Patrick's School, Karachi, graduating in 1958, later attending Forman Christian College in Lahore. He also participated in a certificate course for media management from Delhi university.

Musharraf is married to Sehba, who is from Okara. They have a son, Bilal, who was a graduate student at Stanford University and currently works in the Silicon Valley, and a daughter, Ayla Raza, who works as an architect in Karachi. Musharraf and his wife have four grandchildren, two from each child.

MILITARY CAREER:

In 1961, he entered the Pakistan Military Academy at Kakul, graduating 11th in his class. He was commissioned in 1964 in the Artillery Regiment. Later he joined the Special Services Group and was posted to Field Artillery Regiments. A graduate of the Command and Staff College, Quetta, and the National Defence College, Rawalpindi, Musharraf is also a graduate of the Royal College of Defence Studies of the United Kingdom. Musharraf revealed in his memoirs that in 1965 he was charged with taking unauthorized leave and was about to be court-martialed for it, but was excused due to the war with India.

PRESIDENCY:

Musharraf became Head of Government of Pakistan on October 12, 1999. That day, Sharif attempted to dismiss Musharraf and install Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director Khwaja Ziauddin in his place. Musharraf, who was out of the country, boarded a commercial airliner to return to Pakistan. Senior army generals refused to accept Musharraf's dismissal, which was deemed unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.

Sharif ordered the Karachi airport closed to prevent the landing of the airliner, which then circled the skies over Karachi. In the coup, the Generals ousted Sharif's administration and took over the airport. The plane landed, allegedly with only a few minutes of fuel to spare, and Musharraf assumed control of the government. Sharif was put under house arrest and later exiled, where he resided until he returned again to Pakistan on November 25, 2007.

He and other leaders have subsequently been prevented from entering Pakistan. Reportedly, the disagreement between Musharraf and Sharif centred around the Prime Minister's desire to find a diplomatic resolution to the conflict with India in the Kashmir region.

The existing President of Pakistan, Rafiq Tarar, remained in office until June 2001. Musharraf formally appointed himself President on June 20, 2001, just days before his scheduled visit to Agra for talks with India.

ECONOMY:

After nuclear tests were carried out in 1998, during the Sharif government, the United States and NATO imposed economic sanctions on Pakistan. When Musharraf came to power in the following year Pakistan was expelled from the Commonwealth. This initially compounded the economic problems, and many experts claimed Pakistan was a failed state, as it was close to bankruptcy and investor confidence was at an all-time low. After Musharraf promised support in the hunt for Osama Bin Laden, international sanctions were lifted.

Musharraf then appointed Shaukat Aziz, a former Citibank executive, as finance minister. World powers weighed in for debt rescheduling to reward Pakistan due to the "war on terror", which helped in saving hundreds millions of dollars, in addition to securing new loans. As a result, foreign exchange reserves increased exceeding $16 billion in 2006, but at the same time foreign debt hit an all time high topping $40 billion. The government claims that the economy has grown in several sectors and that per capita income of Pakistan has more than doubled in the last seven years.

SUPPORT FOR WAR ON TERROR:

Following the September 11, 2001 attacks, Musharraf sided with the United States against the Taliban government in Afghanistan after an ultimatum by U.S. President George W. Bush. Musharraf agreed to give the United States the use of three airbases for Operation Enduring Freedom. Secretary of State Colin Powell and other administration officials met with Musharraf. On September 19, 2001, Musharraf addressed the people of Pakistan and stated that, while he opposed military tactics against the Taliban, Pakistan risked being endangered by an alliance of India and the U.S. if it did not cooperate.

LEGACY:

Musharraf characterizes himself as a moderate leader with liberal, progressive ideas, and has expressed admiration for Kemal Ataturk, founder of the Turkish Republic.

His government maintains that Pakistan is prospering due to his economic and social reforms. Statements issued by the government suggest significant improvement in the economy. Some, however, are cautious about any optimism, since the steep rise in GDP is attributed to rebasing done in 2004. External debt, on the other hand, has for the first time hit $40 billion mark.
His government claims to champion freedom of the press. However, following the media coverage of the riots in Karachi on May 12, 2007, Musharraf attempted to curb that freedom by decree. The measure backfired with a severe backlash, and was eventually withdrawn.

This topic should have been in the section of the most disastrous leader of Pakistan. Hes a complete failure and the top hypocrite that our land could ever produce. Perhaps you guys should go and find out what does the word "Leader" mean. Hes simply a dictator. May ALLAH show you guys the right path, thats all I can say as a response to this topic.

constitution of pakistan gives a procedure to remove the judges via article 209 . Have you voilated the constituion by removing the judges through PCO? Exclamation

بہت سال پہلے دلی کے ایک محلے میں تین بچے ایک ہی دن پیدا ہوئے۔ایک کا نام رکھا گیا پرویز مشرف اور دوسرے کا نام اس کے والدین نے رکھا پرویز مشرف اور تیسرے بچے کا نام تھا پرویز مشرف۔ان تینوں پرویزوں اور ان کے والدین میں بڑی محبت اور حسنِ سلوک تھا۔وقت گزرتاگیا اور زمانے کا گرم و سرد انہیں کہیں سے کہیں لے گیا۔ان میں سے دو پرویز تو ملک اسلام آباد کی فوج میں بھرتی ہو گئے اور تیسرا پرویز ادھر ادھر ہوگیا۔
کرنا خدا کا یہ ہوا کہ جن پرویزوں کو فوج میں کمیشن ملا ان میں سے ایک والدین کی دعاؤں اور محنت کے طفیل ترقی کرتے کرتے چیف آف آرمی سٹاف کے عہدے پر پہنچ گیا اور دوسرے پرویز نے بھی اعلیٰ ترین جرنیل کے طور پر ترقی پائی اور اپنی پیشہ ورانہ کارکردگی کی بنیاد پر جوائنٹ چیفس آف آرمی سٹاف کمیٹی کا چیئرمین بن گیا۔ایک دن جب چیف آف آرمی سٹاف پرویز مشرف کسی ملک کے دورے سے واپس آ رہا تھا تو حاکمِ وقت نے اسے دھوکے سے مروانے کی کوشش کی۔اس موقع پر جوائنٹ چیفس کمیٹی کے چیئرمین پرویز مشرف نے دیگر جرنیلوں کے ساتھ مل کر چیف آف آرمی سٹاف پرویز مشرف کا بے جگری سے ساتھ دیا اور دشمن حاکم کو مار بھگایا۔
پھر جیسا کہ کہانیوں میں ہوتا ہے اتفاق سے دونوں پرویزوں کو اپنا بچھڑا ہوا تیسرا جگری یار پرویز مشرف بھی مل گیا۔دونوں پرویز اس تیسرے یار کے ملنے پر جذبات سے اتنے مغلوب ہوگئے کہ اسے ملک اسلام آباد کا صدر بننے کی پیش کش کردی اور تیسرے پرویز نے یہ پیشکش بخوشی قبول کرلی۔تینوں نے پہلے سے براجمان بڈھے کھوسٹ صدر کو ڈنڈا ڈولی کرکے ٹیکسی میں بٹھایا اور ملک لاہور کی طرف روانہ کر دیا۔اور اس کی جگہ تیسرا پرویز کرسی صدارت پر متمکن ہوگیا۔اس کے بعد دونوں فوجی پرویزوں نے تیسرے پرویز کو پہلے تو صدارتی سلوٹ مارا اور پھر آنکھ ماری اور پھر تینوں تا دیر پیٹ پکڑ ے ہنستے رہے۔
بلڈی سویلین کتنے بلڈی
ایک روز صدر پرویز مشرف نے چیف آف سٹاف پرویز سے پوچھا یار۔۔۔جس طرح ہیٹ سے خرگوش نکل سکتا ہے کیا اسی طرح ہیلمٹ سے کوئی سیاسی جماعت نہیں برآمد ہوسکتی۔ ویسے بھی میں یہ دیکھنا چاہتا ہوں کہ یہ بلڈی سویلینز آخر کتنے بلڈی ہوتے ہیں۔

ایک دن جب تینوں پرویز صدارتی محل میں بیٹھے تین پتی کھیل رہے تھے۔ اچانک ان میں سے ایک پرویز نے اعلان کیا کہ میں نوکری کرتے کرتے بور ہوچکا ہوں اس لیے اب سبکدوش ہوکر اپنے پوتوں نواسوں کے ساتھ کھیلنا چاہتا ہوں اور مطالعے اور گولف کورس میں وقت گزارنا چاہتا ہوں۔اب تم دونوں ایک دوسرے کے ساتھ رہو۔میرے مشوروں کی جب بھی ضرورت ہو میں حاضر لیکن مجھے روکنے کی ضد نہ کرنا۔چنانچہ صدر پرویز مشرف اور چیف آف آرمی سٹاف جنرل پرویز مشرف نے بڑے بھاری دل کے ساتھ اپنے جگری یار جوائنٹ چیفس آف سٹاف کمیٹی کے سربراہ جنرل پرویز مشرف کو الوداع کہا اور پھر رموزِ مملکت سلجھانے میں لگ گئے۔
ایک روز صدر پرویز مشرف نے چیف آف سٹاف پرویز سے پوچھا۔یار۔۔۔جس طرح ہیٹ سے خرگوش نکل سکتا ہے کیا اسی طرح ہیلمٹ سے کوئی سیاسی جماعت نہیں برآمد ہوسکتی۔چیف آف سٹاف نے کہا کہ نکل تو سکتی ہے لیکن آخر اس کی ضرورت کیا ہے۔صدر پرویز مشرف نے کہا کہ تو تو اکثر فوجی امور میں مصروف رہتا ہے اور میں بیٹھا بیٹھا بور ہوتا رہتا ہوں۔پارٹی ہوگی تو میری بھی کچھ مصروفیت ہوجائے گی اور ویسے بھی میں یہ دیکھنا چاہتا ہوں کہ یہ بلڈی سویلینز آخر کتنے بلڈی ہوتے ہیں۔
چنانچہ چیف آف آرمی سٹاف نے اپنے کچھ ماتحتوں کے ہمراہ ایک پارٹی تشکیل کرکےصدر کے حوالے کردی تاکہ صدر کا دل لگا رہے۔صدرِ مملکت شغل شغل میں اس پارٹی کے سویلینز سے مشورے کر کے وقت گزاری کرتے لیکن آخری مشورہ ہمیشہ اپنے جگری چیف آف آرمی سٹاف کا ہی مانتے۔
اس مثالی ہم آہنگی کےنتیجے میں انہیں بہت فائدہ ہوا۔مثلاً دونوں نےمل کر جب ملکی امور، اپنے سویلین ماتحتوں اور سویلین پارٹی پر نگاہ رکھنے کے لئے نیشنل سیکورٹی کونسل نامی ایک ادارہ تشکیل دیا تو اس کا ایجنڈہ صدر پرویز مشرف نے چیف آف آرمی سٹاف پرویز مشرف کے ساتھ مشترکہ طور پر ہی بنایا۔اس کے سبب اس کونسل نے جتنے بھی فیصلے کئے بلا چون و چرا کئے۔کونسل کے دیگر ارکان کی مجال نہیں تھی کہ دونوں کی مشترکہ خواہش سےانحراف کرسکیں۔
تو بچو یہ ہوتی ہے اتحاد کی برکت!
دوسرا فائدہ یہ ہوا کہ ملک اسلام آباد کی حکومت میں ایک روانی اور استحکام آگیا۔جہاں صدر، چیف آف آرمی سٹاف اور وزیرِ اعظم نامی کوئی عہدیدار مل کر حکومتی پالیسیاں طے کرتے تھے۔
پرویزوں نے پہلے سے براجمان صدر کو ڈنڈا ڈولی کر کے ٹیکسی میں بٹھایا کر لاہور کی طرف روانہ کر دیا
صدر مشرف کی حکومت سے پہلے اقتدار کی یہ تکون مستقل کھینچا تانی کا شکار رہتی تھی۔لیکن صدر مشرف اور جنرل مشرف نے اس تکون کو ایک استحکام بخشا جس کے سبب وزیرِ اعظم بھی سیدھا رہتا تھا اور ملک اسلام آباد کی تاریخ میں پہلی مرتبہ کسی ایک منتخب حکومت نے پانچ برس پورے کئے۔
صدر مشرف سے پہلے کے ادوار میں چیف آف آرمی سٹاف کو تین برس سے زیادہ اپنے عہدے پر رہنے کے لیے بڑے پاپڑ بیلنے پڑتے تھے۔لیکن جنرل پرویز اور صدر پرویز کی یاری نے یہ مسئلہ بھی حل کردیا اور جنرل پرویز مشرف نے جب بھی یاد دلایا کہ انکی چیف آف سٹاف کے عہدے کی مدت قریب الختم ہے۔صدر پرویز مشرف اپنا قلم اپنے دوست کی طرف یہ کہہ کر بڑھا دیتے۔۔۔۔یار تو خود ہی اپنی توسیع کی فائیل پر میری طرف سے دستخط کرلے۔۔۔۔۔
یہ صدر مشرف اور جنرل پرویز مشرف کی یاری کا ہی تو ثمر ہے کہ جب سپریم کورٹ نامی عدالت کے جج آپے سے باہر ہونے لگے اور انہوں نے دشمنوں کے ساتھ مل کر صدر پرویز مشرف کو چلتا کرنے کی ٹھانی تو یہ چیف آف آرمی سٹاف جنرل پرویز مشرف ہی تھے جنہوں نے اپنے بچپن کی دوستی کا حق یوں نبھایا کہ صدر مشرف کے علم میں لائے بغیر ایمرجنسی لگا دی ۔سرکش ججوں کےمنہ سی دیئےاور دیگر اول فول بکنے والوں کو خاک چٹوادی۔
صدر مشرف کو اگرچہ یہ بات کچھ زیادہ نہیں بھائی کہ جنرل پرویز مشرف نے ان سے پوچھے بغیر ایمرجنسی لگا دی۔لیکن پھر یہ سوچ کر جنرل مشرف کو کچھ نہیں کہا کہ جو کام میں امریکی دباؤ میں دو ماہ پہلےنہ کرسکا وہ کام میرے وفادار دوست چیف آف سٹاف نے پلک جھپکتے میں کر ڈالا۔اگر مجھ سے پوچھ کر کرتا تو شاید میں اجازت نہ دے پاتا۔شکر ہے بات بن بھی گئی اور رہ بھی گئی۔
اور بچو ! وفاداری و دوستی کی اس کہانی میں مزید چار چاند اس طرح لگے جب چیف آف آرمی سٹاف جنرل پرویز مشرف نے اپنے دوست اور باس صدر پرویز مشرف کو یہ اختیار منتقل کردیا کہ صدر اپنی مرضی سے ایمرجنسی کے اعلان میں تبدیلی کر سکتے ہیں اور اسے ختم بھی کرسکتے ہیں۔
پیارے بچو یہ بات تو عجیب و غریب نہیں ہے کہ ایک باس اپنے ماتحت کو کوئی اختیار دے دے۔لیکن دنیا کی حکومتی تاریخ میں شاید پہلی مرتبہ ایسا ہوا ہے کہ کوئی ماتحت اپنے باس کو کوئی اختیار منتقل کرڈالے یا باس کے ہوتے ہوئے باس کا اختیار استعمال کرلے۔ایسے معجزے ملک اسلام آباد المعروف سب سے پہلے پاکستان میں ہی ممکن ہیں۔
بچو اگر آپ کو صدر پرویز مشرف اور جنرل پرویز مشرف کی مثالی دوستی کے بارے میں مزید مواد درکار ہے تو اس کے لیےصدر کی خودنوشت ان دی لائن آف فائر پڑھنا بہت ضروری ہے۔اس کتاب میں صدر مشرف نے اپنے دوست جنرل مشرف کے کارنامے تفصیلاً اجاگر کرتے ہوئے زبردست خراجِ تحسین پیش کیا ہے۔
پیارے بچو ہماری دعا ہے کہ آپ سب بھی صدر مشرف اور جنرل پرویز مشرف کی طرح ہنسی خوشی مل جل کر کھائیں پئیں، کھیلیں کودیں اور دودھوں نہائیں پوتوں پھلیں۔
