ISLAMABAD: The Federal Ministry of Education has failed to introduce new text books under revised national curriculum.
Sources said that bureaucratic hurdles and lack of intra-departmental coordination have caused the delay in introducing new text books from class one to twelve across the country including Azad Kashmir.
The decision to revise the curriculum was taken at an inter-provincial education ministers' conference on January 22, 2006 in Islamabad while a notification No. F.8-16/2005-SSG dated 13 June, 2007 was issued in this regard.
"The role of curriculum wing of Federal Education Ministry is more deserting and slacked. As many as nine books of different courses were completed by the National book Foundation in 2007 and forwarded to the Curriculum Wing for no objection certificate (NOC) but since last two years the NOC have not been delaying," they added.
They said it was decided that the text books would be arranged according to the new curriculum in three stages as in the first stage nine books would be completed according to the new curriculum in 2007. In the second stage till 2010, 44 books would be completed, while in the final. In the third stage till 2016, the remaining text books from class one to twelve which are more than one hundred would be completed and published for the students, they added. They said that there were three bodies involved in publishing and writing the books including the NBF, responsible to complete the books of Federal Education Department. The Text Book Boards were responsible for publishing and writing the books according to the revised curriculum for their respective provincial education departments. The third was the AJK Text Book Board which had to complete its respective territory books.
They said that the books would be written under the uniformed curriculum while the curriculum wing would issue NOC to these books as there were committees formed for each book in the curriculum wing that would analyse the books to check whether these books were according to the curriculum or not.
