Nelson Mandela's grandsons are speaking out!
Hey... Has anyone heard about - or seen - the interview that Nelson Mandela's grandsons recently did together? They were interviewed by Daphne Barak... It already aired in London. I heard that it was really fascinating stuff! I read an article about it on a London website and it's being talked about all over the UK. From what I've heard (from those who have seen it) the Mandela grandsons seem like very matured, well-grounded young men. They certainly have an extraordinary grandfather!

I'm really glad that they (and their grandfather) are speaking out about the situation in Zimbabwe! (I've seen some comments and quotes from the interview...it's been in some papers and people across the web are talking about it.) From what I've heard, I'm not sure that they are condemning Mugabe enough though??!
I don't know... From what I'm hearing, I think they could have taken a stronger position...

Something else I read - which is very interesting -- it seems that the Mandela grandsons spoke out publicly in support of Barack Obama....which I think really is VERY interesting that they spoke out so favorably about Obama after Bill Clinton attended Nelson Mandela's birthday bash!!! They had to be aware of the 'strain' between the Clintons and Obama...unless you live in a cave, you'd have to be aware of that! Some people are saying that the grandsons 'dissed' Bill Clinton by speaking so favorably - and in support of (!) - Obama!!

Looking forward to actually seeing their interview though -- what a great chance to see Mandela's grandsons together for the first time! And I really want to hear what they actually say about Obama and the Clintons...I've only heard rumors up to this point! I think that the interview is supposed to air in the US soon!!
It will be nice to hear them talk about their grandfather as well... And I've heard that they were very impressive...perhaps some of them will consider a life in politics or public service.

I have heard about the interview - and I also heard that the Mandela grandsons were very impressive!
I definitely want to see it when it airs!

However, from what I have heard (has anyone here seen the interview yet??!!) -- I think they could have taken a harder line on Mugabe. The guy is a tyrant of the worst measure. And nothing in Zimbabwe is ever going to change if people with a high profile (like the Mandela grandsons!) don't take a strong stance and come out with hard-hitting rhetoric on the situation - and on Mugabe!!

Granted, I haven't actually seen it yet, but from what I've heard, they should have said more!! Their grandfather is respected by world leaders, and their position as members of the Mandela family gives them a HUGE and influential platform!!!! This is the time for them to think of other people who are struggling for freedom -- and to come out and strongly condemn Mugabe -- not mildly but big time...with very strong language!!

They could - and should - take a very hard line on Mugabe!!!

But what's wrong with them supporting Barack Obama??!!! I'd be surprised if they didn't support Obama! Like them, Obama is a young guy, very bright and intelligent, hopeful for the future... I really didn't expect them to come out for John McCain. LOL And the Obama-Clinton rift is history. In the past. Over. Done with. And even if it were not over - just because Bill Clinton shows up for Nelson Mandela's birthday party, doesn't mean that the Mandela grandsons are bound by some blood oath that prevents them from stating support for another candidate (Obama!) that they may like!! Some people are just far too caught up in petty minutia. Ridiculous.

And furthermore -- I am sick and tired of the Clintons and their sense of 'entitlement'. Enough already!!! I am sick and tired of them feeling that everyone "owes" them something!! Of course Mandela's grandsons would support Obama!!! They are Africans afterall!!! Get a reality check people!!!

They could have come out harder against Mugabe - yes!!!

But to trash them for supporting Obama is just ludicrous!!! Anyone who does that -- get a life!!!

So now people are trashing the Mandela grandsons because they didn't take enough of a 'hard-line' stance on Mugabe??!! Unbelievable. These guys are not heads of state!!! They are a group of 20-somethings!! And, it would seem, a very impressive group at that!! I heard (from the UK airing of the interview) what they said about Mugabe -- and it was just what they should have said! No more, no less.

If you want to trash someone for not taking enough of a 'hard-line' stance on Mugabe, there are plenty of people you can look at -- starting with some current (and powerful) sitting heads of state!!!!

As far as the Clinton/Obama thing... I do think that they might should have dialed back the Obama support a bit. I don't think it's a big deal, necessarily, but it might have been a bit disrespectful to Bill Clinton...them basically endorsing and supporting Obama....at least this soon after the end of the Clinton/Obama fight!!

Bill Clinton has always been very supportive of Nelson Mandela...and I don't think it was necessary for Mandela's grandsons to slight Bill Clinton in that way. And I also do not think that the Obama/Clinton feud is quite over and done with as of yet. I think there's still a lot of animosity and bad feelings there. And I think that just makes the Mandela grandsons' Obama endorsement (at this particular time) even more of a slight to Bill Clinton. (And the Clintons do not behave as if anyone "owed" them anything!!! Get real!!!)

I can agree all the way around, though, that the Mandela grandsons seem to be an intelligent, thoughtful, and well informed group of young men. I think they all have bright futures ahead of them! And they seem like very nice people! I think (for those who have not yet seen the interview) that Daphne Barak has some pictures of the Mandela grandsons on her website:
Code:
http://DaphneBarak.com
.

And I say to the Mandela grandsons -- don't listen to snarky stuff on the internet -- make your own decisions!!! Support whatever candidate you like --- and follow your own conscience on Zimbabwe (or any other world leader)!!! Follow your grandfathers example!!!
