| Naples bans smoking in public places |
|
Monday, November 19, 2007
NAPLES: The Italian city of Naples has taken its smoking ban outdoors, forbidding lighting up in public parks and during demonstrations and cultural events if children or pregnant women are nearby.
Violators risk fines from euro27.50-euro500, according to a city ordinance that went into effect on Sunday.
Smoking in Naples - like the rest of Italy - is already banned in restaurants, offices and other closed public places like airports.
Naples decided to expand its ban outside because health officials recently reported that the death rate of victims from respiratory illness and lung cancer was “significantly’’ higher in Naples than the rest of the country, according to the ordinance.
In addition, studies show an increase in smoking among the young and that children constitute one-third of the recipients of second-hand smoke, the text says.
The ordinance bans smoking in the city’s 43 public parks if children under age 12 or pregnant women are nearby, as well as during demonstrations and cultural events like open-air films, concerts and theatrical presentations.

Not just the Naples, Most of the developed western countries have these same laws of smoking.
Say for Example Australia:
No smoking in car if you have child under 12 years of Age.
No smoking in Aircon Places.
No smoking in public transport and bus stops.
No smoking in Pubs and Bars.
No smoking in public places.
These sort of laws are very common in almost every Developed country, well mostly Western...!

It's good but liquor/alcohol is causing more problem in develop countries than smoking. However, they aren’t making legislation to ban it.
