Musharraf Resigned

President Pervez Musharraf announced in a televised address to the nation Monday that he had decided to resign after nine years in power to avoid the threat of impeachment.

"After viewing the situation and consulting legal advisers and political allies, with their advice I have decided to resign," a grim-faced Musharraf said, backed by Pakistani flags and a portrait of the country's founder.

"I leave my future in the hands of people."

Musharraf made the shock announcement after denying that any of the impeachment charges against him could stand and launching into a lengthy defence of his time in power.

"Not a single charge in the impeachment can stand against me," Musharraf said. "No charge can be proved against me because I never did anything for myself, it was all for Pakistan."

He said that there was now law and order in the country, that human rights and democracy had been improved and that Pakistan was now an crucial country internationally.

"On the map of the world, Pakistan is now an important country, by the grace of Allah," he said.

“For me it is always Pakistan first”, Musharraf said and added that politics of confrontation must come to an end and instead a policy of reconciliation be pursued.

He stressed immediate measure be taken to arrest the economic downturn and said the nation has the resilience to withstand any challenge.

He said it was not a time to show bravado, but to get serious as country’s dignity was at stake, the office of Presidency would bear the brunt.

“For 44 years I have safeguarded the country and will continue to do so.”

“No charge sheet can stand against me. Not even a single charge can be proven against me as I have full trust in Allah Almighty and I did everything with the belief of Pakistan First.”

The President said he took all decisions with consultation, took all stakeholders onboard, on the most difficult decisions.

“All stake holders, whether they were soldiers, politicians, bureaucrats, members of civil society, Ulema were consulted in all decisions. “I have nothing to worry about the charge sheet,” Musharraf said.

I congratulate you also.
In my opinion he was a symptom and the Cancer is the Nizam that creates leaders like this. If this Nizam continues we will be offering congrats to each other in a few years time when the next leader has fallen.

This is a change by america as Musharraf has passed his USE BY date (just like food). And in order or the US to continue its agenda in Pakistan it needs fresh faces.

We will celebrate for a few days or weeks and then the reality will strike!
Need complete change in leadership and Nizam

Pakistani media and Pakistani leaders are sick; people are committing suicide and they are after musharraf who wasn’t stopping government to do any welfare and now media is congratulating musharraf resign; media supposed to be nuetral but if you listen to the anchor like kashif from ary oneworld he talks about musharraf like musharraf has f---- him

they are supporting nawaz and zardari the most corrupt leader I have ever seen in my life both are talk about parliament and government and democracy and both are outside the parliament and stupid media has closed their eyes from the problems of poor people who even can not have 1 proper meal in a day and everywhere is just about musharraf as the root of every problem is musharraf;

welldone musharraf you have taken the execused out from the zardari nawaz and so called neutral media

im glad to see musharaff go

for all these mockers, let me just say that alot has been changed in Pakistani Politics,

I have seen a major change in Nawaz Sharif's political approach, and one thing I cant understand that why people think that Nawaz is as corrupt as zardari? I think nawaz sharif is much better than zardari, as he is not corrupt, its only his subordinates who did corruption which he didnt know of; while on the other hand zardari did all the corruption himself and filled up his foreign bank accounts and assets, its only zardari who is the Pakistan's no 1 richest man, nawaz sharif is not even as rich as 10th in Pakistan he is more down the line; he is a business man who has got many hospitals and industries he doesnt need to earn money from unfair means, but for heaven's sake dont ever compare nawaz with zardari there is a lot of difference; and talk some sense. I would say that shehbaz sharif should be the next president, he is the person much educated, sensible, understanding, who sympathises with ordinary Pakistanis.

But again I would rate that even zardari is far better than musharraf, the reason is zardari is not involved in mass killings in Pakistan while musharraf did mass killings of Pakistnai people, he sold our sisters (Dr. Afia) and her kids to americans, he is not a human being he is a pig and he should be executed for his crimes. Zardari is corrupt but I accept him because atleast he is better than musharraf in decision making; Although there is no comparison of nawaz sharif (who is a bit stupid sometimes) but he is sincere to Pakistan in all manners; try to compare the corruption scales of nawaz sharif and zardari there will be a massive difference and stop talking like people with no sense of logic.

Finally some good news from Pakistan
