President Pervez Musharraf announced in a televised address to the nation Monday that he had decided to resign after nine years in power to avoid the threat of impeachment.
"After viewing the situation and consulting legal advisers and political allies, with their advice I have decided to resign," a grim-faced Musharraf said, backed by Pakistani flags and a portrait of the country's founder.
"I leave my future in the hands of people."
Musharraf made the shock announcement after denying that any of the impeachment charges against him could stand and launching into a lengthy defence of his time in power.
"Not a single charge in the impeachment can stand against me," Musharraf said. "No charge can be proved against me because I never did anything for myself, it was all for Pakistan."
He said that there was now law and order in the country, that human rights and democracy had been improved and that Pakistan was now an crucial country internationally.
"On the map of the world, Pakistan is now an important country, by the grace of Allah," he said.
“For me it is always Pakistan first”, Musharraf said and added that politics of confrontation must come to an end and instead a policy of reconciliation be pursued.
He stressed immediate measure be taken to arrest the economic downturn and said the nation has the resilience to withstand any challenge.
He said it was not a time to show bravado, but to get serious as country’s dignity was at stake, the office of Presidency would bear the brunt.
“For 44 years I have safeguarded the country and will continue to do so.”
“No charge sheet can stand against me. Not even a single charge can be proven against me as I have full trust in Allah Almighty and I did everything with the belief of Pakistan First.”
The President said he took all decisions with consultation, took all stakeholders onboard, on the most difficult decisions.
“All stake holders, whether they were soldiers, politicians, bureaucrats, members of civil society, Ulema were consulted in all decisions. “I have nothing to worry about the charge sheet,” Musharraf said.

Democracy Real Picture.
I hope It will be good for the Nation, But 1 thing i would like to say to you all. Now pakistan will fall in Political Crisis, You know a political party has appointed their Chairman 18 Year Old and saying that he has learnt a lot from his Mother. Do you think that is that not making fool to all the nation. A person who dont event speak your national language. And would you like to go to vote for his party. This is the Downfall of Democracy that you are going to give vote to a party which is totally non democratic in party internal Affairs. Let say Musharraf was dictotar. Dictator Means a person who Dictate his instructions. But My Pakistan Friends Dont let the pakistan from Dictatorship to Fudel Lordism, and dont make your Generation slave to these Fudel Lors. Let them out of the parliment who thought that Pakistan was a Republic of his father and grandfather. And now young generation will vote for the Nation. Because this generation is more educated as previous generation. And this is my will and request to all you people. Pakistan has not been made by only one Family. That Father Then Daughter and the her son and after this his son and ......> plz finish this trend now otherwise you next generations will face these '' JAGEERDARISM'' AND let the origional democracy become...
I hope you will get pitty towards your next generation.
One more thing you know why these fudel lords become in power because untill people will run after their vehicles. I you leave running after them. they will finished. dont sell you dignity, Honor and next generation future very cheep by running after them.
Now we have to behave like a senseable nation,we shouldn,t allow any one to make full out of us.We should not allow any puppet president chosen by Zardari to fullfill his mission of corruption. After Benazir death Zardari has proffited enorm,he is slowly & steadilly sidelining the idealogical PPP polititions, replacing it with his frontmen & touts. His eyes are now on the President post but as I always mentioned he is playing his cards very cunninggly & cleverly,he want to be a king maker & not king himself. Therefore he want to hijack PPP completely,it is no more Bhutto family in driving seat rather Zardari family. One step in thiis direction he want to nominate his sister (Also a front woman & Ally in his corruptions) Faryal Talpur for the President post so that he has a fully control allover. We as a nation should not allow such un healthy practices that all the power remain in the I hope also that the idealogical PPP polititions should also play some positive role to stop such mal practices. This time a president should be of national stature, impartial, unbiased & collectively acceptable person.balance of power & real contitutional check & balances should left intact, other wwise it will lead it towards parliamentry dictatorship.Because we don,t have the real conditions required for the success of democracy.

Thanks
I hope you will understand
I fully agreed with your views, once corrupt is always corrupt.Untill & unless all these both parties Chors have not returned back the plundered wealth of this nation, admission of their all wrongdoings in the past & ask for forgiveness from the nation will lead us towards other disasters (Pls,read my last post).PPP & Pakistan is not the dynasty that without any democratic proccess thrown will be given to the next of kinn. Why we as a nation are so naives to forget the past of these people, why we have such a short memory & why we plays in their hands. We have to wake up,realise & act collectively as senseable nation. How theese people brought up on "HARRAM"wealth enjoying the most luxurious & extravagant life abroad can realise the problems of the laymen oof Pakistan. It is just another manoover to plunder Pakistani nation.Zardari has taken over the PPP,posted & appointed his touts & frontmen at the most important/lucrative places.Nawaz Sharif his gone so far in his personal rage that supporting him out of ways, will be bullied out & playedout by this cunning Zardari. He will than realise when it is too late.Their colaboratio,co opperation & coalition is for the sake oof their own wested interests.

Yes, Pakistani nation needs a revolutionary change in its system, but I think it will never be possible in a single jump. We will have to bring it gradually and without any bloodshed. In the past a lot bloo.. things have passed and now we need a peaceful revolution. So I think we must educate ourselves not only educationally but politically also, become good observers, analysts and decide for some positive in future. I am quite sure our Nation´s youngs have this capacity. God Bless them - Ameen.

SUMMA AMEEN!!! Yes we don,t need to be pascimist or lose hopes but in the meantime we have to realise our duties as a nation b4 claiming rights. Also we don,t have to be naives to play in the hands of these socalled polititions. We should prefer tthe national interest over our personal benefits & interests. And do not forget that"Khuda ne aaj thak uss Qaom ki haalat nahih badli -- Na ho jis ko khayal aap apni haalat ke badalne ka"
