Intorduce yourself and share your city gupshup - gup shup, photos and tell us about your beautiful city of Mianwali.
Information:
Mianwali (Urdu: میانوالی) is one of the north-western cities in the province of Punjab, Pakistan Bordering Bannu, Lakki Marwat in west, Kohat and Karak in North west and D.I.Khan in southwest. Mianwali is located along the bank of river Indus. Mianwali is an important city of Punjab, and it has an airport, a Nuclear Power Plant, Chasma Barrage, Chashma Hydel Power Plant (all three in Kundian) and an airforce base. In November 1901, North West Frontier Province was carved out of Punjab and towns of Mianwali, Isa Khel, Kalabagh, and Kundian were separated from Bannu District (NWFP)and hence a new district was made with the headquarters in Mianwali city and placed in Punjab. Famous for its brave and strong willed people that constitute a greater part in Pakistan's Army. The Niazis, a Pakhtun tribe (famous for bravery and enmities) currently control the politics and other issues of governance of that area. 80% of the population is of Afghan origin (Pathans/Pashtuns). Mostly the people are bilingual (speak siraiki and Pashto)

Mianwali, town (1981 pop. 59,159), N Pakistan, on the Indus River. It is the administrative center and market for a district that produces food grains, oilseed, hides, and wool.
Education doesn't exist in the impoverished Mianwali district of Punjab in Pakistan. Instead, crime and chronic drug abuse define life for most of the 1 million people who live there.
There is no skilled workforce, no industry and few opportunities. Young people have rarely seen computers, let alone know how to use them. Adults never learned to read or write and funding for schools disappeared long ago.
According the Bradford University , UK press release, Namal College, in the Mianwali District , has become an Associate College of the University, and is being developed by the Mianwali Development Trust (MDT). As well as being the University’s Chancellor, Imran Khan is also Chairman of the MDT and a Member of Parliament for the District. The first phase of College buildings will be completed for the admission of students in September 2006.

Early History
The Thal, however, without wells would be a desert, and the probability is that in early historic times nearly the whole of it was a barren waste. There is no record of any plundering expedition on the Thal side by Alexander the Great's forces, when they passed down the Jhelum to its junction with the Indus, though they lightly undertook such an expedition across the waterless Bar to the Ravi. This affords a presumption that the Thal was then a poorer country than it is now.
Biluchch Pathans
A few families of Biluchch Pathans came across the Indus . from the Paniala Hills .Of these, one became dominant at Piplan, while the others moved on into the Thal and took up their abode eventually in and about Jandanwala.
