Intorduce yourself and share your city gupshup - gup shup, photos and tell us about your beautiful city of Lahore.
Information:
Lahore (Urdu: لاہور, Punjabi: لہور) is the capital of the province of Punjab, and the second most populated city in Pakistan, also known as the Gardens of the Mughals or City of Gardens, after the significant rich heritage of the Mughal Empire. It is located near the river Ravi and the Indian border, Wagah.
Due to Lahore's rich history, the Mughal and colonial architecture has still been preserved in all its splendour. Mughal architecture such as, the Badshahi Mosque, Lahore Fort, Shalimar Gardens and the mausoleums of Jehangir and Nur Jehan are very popular tourist spots in the city. Various colonial buildings originally built by the British, such as the Lahore High Court, General Post Office (GPO) and many of the older universities still retain their Mughal-Gothic style.
Punjabi is the language of the province, and is the most widely spoken language in Lahore, although Urdu and English are becoming more popular with younger generations. Many people of Lahore who speak Punjabi are known as Lahori Punjabi due to a mixture of Punjabi and colloquial Urdu. According to the 2006 census, Lahore's population is expected to top 10 million. It is the second largest city in Pakistan, after Karachi. Lahore is the 5th largest city in South Asia and 23rd of the largest cities of the world.

The Shalamar Gardens built by Emperor Shah JehanLahore is known as the City of Gardens. There were many gardens in Lahore during Mughal some of them were destroyed by course of history but many still survives till this day are the fine example of Mughal Gardens.
The Shalamar Gardens were laid out during the reign of Shah Jahan and mimic the Islamic paradise of the afterlife described in the Quran. The gardens follow the familiar char bagh model (four squares) with three descending terraces.
The Lawrence Gardens were established in 1862 and were originally named after Sir John Lawrence, late 19th century British Viceroy to India. The gardens were organized in an area covering 112 acres. The vow of the East India Company was that it would bring 80,000 saplings of 600 different species from every corner of the world, where in those days, the sun never set. After collecting money from the sale of Badami Bagh, the Soldier's Bazaar at Anarkali and from a grant by the "Company Bahadur”, the land was purchased in the year 1860.Today it is known as Lawrence Gardens

In the past, Lahore was the melting pot of different culture, art and craft. Centuries later, not much has changed. The second largest city in Pakistan, Lahore is the educational, cultural and artistic capital of Pakistan. Once the capital of the Mughal Empire, Lahore bears the stamp of the Mughal architecture.
According to mythology Lahore traces its origin to the period of the Ramayana and to Loe, the son of Lord Rama, who believed to have founded the city, but history, traces the past of Lahore from the 8th century AD onwards. Lahore was under the rule of the Hindu ruler Lalitiditya in the 8th century, before the advent of the Muslim in the 11th century. In the 13th century, Lahore was completely destroyed when it became the target of Mongolian warriors, who were led by Genghis Khan. Lahore was at its peak during the Mughal rule in the medieval times and later; the city became an important political center during the fight for independence against the British.

The Mughals' gift to Lahore-the Shalimar Gardens is an exciting place to visit. Just five kilometres from the old city the gardens make a wonderful tourist spot for tourists to Pakistan. Built by the Mughal ruler Shah Jehan in 1642, the gardens reflect the typical Mughal style layout.
The other places that you can include in your itinerary include the Mall, Lahore Museum, Kim's Gun and the Minar-I-Pakistan. Aitchison College, that was once the studying place of Imran Khan is another beautiful spot that you check out. A walk through the bazaars in Lahore is a must on your tour to Lahore. No tour to Lahore is complete with enjoying the flavors of the local cuisine.

In Modern period now it is declared’ “Lahore is indeed the Heart of Pakistan” with it’s ever green gaiety. It’s true and by the blessing of Allah if you go to any corner of the city you will find shops open for Juices, milk, milk items, fruits, paan, cigarettes, fish, tikka, paratha, naan and for many daisy items or foods. There is always a hustle and bustle of devotees at the shrines paying their love to the saintly men who are extremely successful in bringing the non Muslim to the fold of Islam. You may always found some political or social activity in some part of great city, which proves it’s heart beat. Any movement in country takes sprint from this marvelous city. People visiting this tremendous city always receive a warm welcome from it’s natives, who are very truly called “Zinda Dalan-e-Lahore”.
Minar-e-Pakistan
In the middle of Iqbal Park in Lahore stands Minar-e-Pakistan, a tall concrete minaret which was built as a tribute to the creation of Pakistan.
This is the exact place where in 1940, the Muslim League passed the famous Lahore Resolution, which demanded a separate homeland for the Muslims of India.
Minar-e-Pakistan is about 60 meters in height. The tower base is raised approximately four meters from the ground and it rises up to approximately 13 meters, forming a sculpted, flower-like base. From this point it tapers as it rises. The base platform is shaped like a five-pointed star and it encloses crescent shaped pools. It is constructed of reinforced concrete, with the floors and walls rendered in stone and marble. Now it is officially recognized as the National Monument of Pakistan.
The Minar-e-Pakistan was designed by Murad Khan, a Turkish architect.

Badshahi Mosque
Close to Minar-e-Pakistan is the magnificent Badshahi mosque, built under the patronage of the sixth Mughal Emperor, Aurangzeb Alamgir. The moque was completed in 1673 under the supervision of Aurangzeb’s foster brother Muzaffar Hussain who was appointed governor of Lahore in May of 1671 and held this post until 1675.
Shalimar Gardens
The gardens are a masterpiece from the time of the Mughal civilization, which reached its height during the reign of the Emperor Shah Jahan. The gardens were commissioned by Shah Jahan in 1637. The fort contains marble palaces and mosques decorated with mosaics and gilt. The elegance of these splendid gardens, built near the city of Lahore on three terraces with lodges, waterfalls and large ornamental ponds, is unequalled.

have visit Lahore many times since i born.Lahore is undoubtedly ancient. Legend had it that it was founded by Loh, son of Rama, the hero of the Hindu epic, the Ramayana. Some others think that the name means Loh-awar, meaning a "Fort as strong as Iron". It waxed and waned in importance during the Sultanate. But, Muslim rule began here when Qutub-ud-din Aibak was crowned in Lahore in 1206 and thus became the first Muslim Sultan of the subcontinent.

- The first 15 channels on your cable are dedicated to stage show and next 15 are of Indian movies.
- The morning rush hour is from 6am to 12pm. The evening rush hour is from 2pm to 9pm. Saturday's rush hour starts Friday morning.
- You buy anything and everything from Al-Fatah
- Your maassee and driver have taught you fluent Punjabi
- Your uncivilised next door neighbour just bought a BMW because he deals in property

- At least one of your friends is a Butt
- The people in your local Gourmet Bakery know you by face
- The only solution to boredom is eating out
- All directions start with, "Go down to Main Boulevard"
- You think it's okay to wait 5 hours in the queue for Bashir's Fish in Mozang because he only opens 6 months in the year
- You go to Shahjamal every Thursday to smoke weed with Pappu Saaeen
- Its quite all right to run a red light if the traffic policeman doesn't have a bike to chase you
- When someone asks you ''Bhai yeh Fortress kahaan hai?'', you spread an evil grin on your face and send him to Johar Town
- If you are hungry at 3 in the morning, you go to Coffee Tea & Co in your pyjamas instead of walking to your kitchen
- Your cousins from Karachi ask you about Food Street and you say, "I went there back in 2003"
- Your winning argument about how Lahore is better than Karachi is 'Lahore Lahore aey'

We all need to read it carefully and think, what we are. Are we pure Pakistan? Dont blame on each other, just look inside you.

| Great Work - Ugwaraich - City Migration |
|
It was really funny and I enjoyed to read it...infact I will forward it to my friends.
But I want to raise a Question that "When City migration will stop" ?
Bcz Original lahore doesn't have that much population, the good example see lahore on Eid when only Original lahori left in lahore rest go back to their villages and cities.
Why we don't develop othercities that much?
One more thing sometimes its easy to judge a person that he/she is belong to lahore or not. Bcz I saw lot of people who are belong to other cities and when you ask them, they say proudly I am from Lahore.
Once happened i had two friends with me(newly introduced by me), both were belong to Sailkot. And guess what both were shamed to tell that they are from sailkot and they lied with eachother that they are from Lahore.
Last thing, Lahore guys or girls have something special which tells they are pure lahori.
And I personally encourage others to develop their cities, bcz we have big country, we should not have only 5 cities which normally foreigner know Lahore, Karachi, Quetta and yes Islamabad. We already have great cities like Fasilabad, Sailkot, Multan and many more [which are specialized in their products or businesses] but our stupied politions who come from English Medium school, but don't know anything but POWER. what we can do when they them self migrate from Gujrat to Lahore fro ROZI ROTTI.
Note: I do not intend to hurt anybody but what ever i said, its a turth. Rest all comments will welcomed.
