Film on Benazir Bhutto

New Delhi: Benazir Bhutto's assassination might be old news, however, both Bollywood and Hollywood are vying to get her immortalised on celluloid.

A film on the former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir's life is what has got filmmakers buzzing. Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, who has always been keen on having better India-Pakistan relations, has expressed interest in making a film and the actress who will play the late Pakistani leader on screen has been already finalised.

"We are interested in making the film. Shabana has already given her nod," says Mahesh Bhatt, Filmmaker.

However, even as Mahesh Bhatt has started work on getting a go-ahead from the Bhutto family, it is reported that Benazir's husband Asif Ali Zardari might give the final nod to Hollywood actor-director Robert Redford who had expressed interest in making a Biopic on Benazir sometime back.

"I got a call from Zardari's lawyer who said that Robert Redford had shown interest in the film while Bhutto was alive. We have to still check whether there was a written contract with him or not," says Mahesh Bhatt, Filmmaker.

It's good to know that someone is willing to show life of a great leader on a big screen. Redford's deal seems better as it covers a wider audience. It is important that people of the world know about her as true her and not just what the media prtrays her. I wonder if Surey Palace would be available for filming?

lol surrey palace. I am sure that this movie is going to be an exaggeration of her life, might show some fancy of her because it needs popularity anyway.

Many of her followers may not like the movie, when it comes out..

it would probaly be a really good movie but the obstacle would be to find a good actor to act benazir bhuttos part

Yes the movie about BB should be informative in a sense we never come to know much about things in Pakistan. Also this movie might also be able to ne depicting the huge conflict Pakistani society is undergoing. The killing of Benazir also had people saying that this is the worst Muslims can do to Muslims. Love generates love and hate also does the same. How can hate for others result in love for own ones? When our generation is long gone into the shadows of the dust our children should inherit the knowledge of their ancestors who killed each other in the name of Religion and bigoted hatred.

i believe for all those people who do not have much knowledge abt her, it would serve a great cause

It's a good idea...but I don't think Indian film industry would be able to do justice to the topic.
It is, however, a good idea and good subject for a film.

I think it will be a great film, and I do hope the role of Bhutto is played by a non-famous pakistani woman who will portray a realistic part!!

I must say that our country is all ready broken by polictics and sucide bombers. If you could just remember only 8 or 10 years back you must feel that it was never that much bed. Once Miss Butto had passed i think they rather we all should pray for her soul. Making a movie on her would be a foolish idea as all the nation and her family is still in deep grief.

I am sure this movie will be an attempt to portray a slightly good image of Benazir and at the same time will try to convey the poisonous conceptions that indians and americans have about Islam in general and Pakistan in particular. This movie will be a camouflaged version of indian and american propoganda as they always do in their movies and media. Americans or indians have no right to interfere in Pakistan's internal matters and I suspect they will openly do it in this movie. So, I ask bollywood fans to watch out!
