| Federal Government Gives Hint To Withdraw Forces |
|
Peshawar -- The federal government has shown its willingness to reduce the number of troops from Swat and shortly the armed forces will start their withdrawal in phases. However, in order to maintain peaceful atmosphere, units of the Frontier Corps will be deployed in the area, and they will be supported by the Frontier Constabulary for ensuring peace.
Well placed sources informed the daily Nawa-e Waqt that this suggestion was recently put forward in the corps commanders’ conference. The sources further told that the corps commander of Peshawar briefed the chief of army staff about the tribal areas and Swat. The role of armed forces was lauded in this conference of the corps commander that it has done a great and timely job of restoring the situation to normalcy in Swat in such a short span of time.
The sources told that the recommendations dispatched by the provincial government were also deliberated upon in the corps commanders’ conference in which the suggestion of withdrawal of forces from Swat is also included. However, the withdrawal of armed forces will begin when normalcy returns in Swat. The North Western Frontier Province [NWFP] government will give a green signal to the federal government in this respect. There will not be complete withdrawal of armed forces from the area; however, the number of troops will be reduced in phases. In the second phase, the units of the Frontier Corps will be deployed there and they will be supported by the Frontier Constabulary for maintaining peace in the area. After the completion of this phase, the withdrawal of forces from Swat will be completed.
The sources also informed that in the third phase, Frontier Corps and in the fourth phase, the units of Frontier Constabulary will also be pulled out from Swat. However, these phases will be completed after the situation becomes clear in Swat.
