| Ex General Sees Musharraf Exit A Panacea For All Ills |
|
Tala Gang -- Lt General [ret] Abdul Qayum, former chairman of Pakistan Steel Mills said that impeachment of President Musharraf is the need of the hour. He should have resigned after the public mandate of 18 February. However, the best solution to strengthen democracy in the country, to end unrest and anarchy, is that President Musharraf should leave the President House. He was talking to the journalists in the welcome party given by Syed Ashfaq Husain Shah of Mohalla Jafar Abad, Chakwal, an expatriate now living in England. Sardar Ghulam Abbas, District Nazim [administrator] Chakwal, Sardar Aftab Akbar, Tehsil Nazim, Chaudhary Ijaz Husain Farhat, former member of Punjab Assembly, Sardar Khurrum Nawab, Member of Punjab Assembly, Malik Fidaur Rahman, Chairman of a Literary Organization Aina, Col [ret] Zulifqar Zulfi, Chaudhary Nisar Abbas, Union Nazim, and Kashif Malik, Tehsil Municipal Administrator [TMA] attended the welcome function.
Gen [ret] Abdul Qayum said that we have put our security at stake by toeing the US line. Now the situation is that the entire country has been turned into a veritable hell and hotbed. The life and property of the people is not safe. The Army has been pitched against its own people.
He said the US bootlicking is another matter; the independence and sovereignty of the country must not be compromised [over it].
He said that the ruling coalition has a grave responsibility on its shoulders that it should devise a policy that after the impeachment of President Musharraf, it should take people from all segments of life on board to resolve the challenges confronting the country. He expressed his conviction that after Musharraf's exit, the country will see a positive change. The exit of President Musharraf is actually the representation of the emotions and feelings of the 160 million people of the country.
