Dr. Afia tortured by US intelligence(PLZ READ)
Updated at: 1010 PST, Monday, August 04, 2008
WASHINGTON: Five years after her disappearance, an MIT-trained Pakistani neuroscientist, accused of belonging to an al-Qaeda cell based in Boston, is alive and in custody in Afghanistan, her family attorney said.

“It has been confirmed by the FBI that Aafia Siddiqi is alive,” said Elaine Whitfield Sharp, a lawyer for Siddiqi’s family told Geo News, who said she spoke to an FBI official on Thursday. “She is injured but alive, and she is in Afghanistan.”

For five years, the US and Pakistani authorities have denied knowing her whereabouts. But human rights groups and Siddiqi’s relatives have long suspected that she had been captured in Karachi and secretly taken into custody.

If Siddiqi was arrested in Pakistan and turned over to the United States, it would highlight a crucial instance of intelligence cooperation between the two countries during a historic low point in their relations.

Earlier this week, US officials accused ISI of actively cooperating with tribal, pro-Taliban militants engaged in killing US troops in Afghanistan. In the White House meeting, President Bush confronted Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani with the intercepted phone calls between ISI and the militants.

On Thursday, an FBI official visited Siddiqi’s brother in Houston to deliver the news that she was alive and in custody, Sharp said, but the visit raised as many questions as it answered. The FBI officials would not say who was holding her or reveal the fate of her three young, American-born children.

“If she is in US custody, they want to know where she is,” Sharp said. “Who has got her? And does she need medical care?” The FBI and the Justice Department declined to comment.

Sharp said she believes those reports increased pressure on the US and Pakistani authorities to divulge more information. “I do not believe that they just found Aafia,” Sharp said. “I believe that she was there all along.”

My heart bleeds whenever I read anything about this lady, she was kidnapped with her three little children, the youngest one was only 6 months old. No one knows where her children are now, it is confirmed that Dr. Aafia is in a jail in helmand in Afghanistan and she is being tortured, and reports say that she is terribly injured at the moment. What possibly a woman with three innocent young children has to do with al-qaeda? How dare some other country kidnap, and torture our citizens? no country in the world has the right to do it, UN is a puppet of USA, there is no voice being raised by UN about this issue. That lady is in agonising pain and she needs our help.

I hate america, I hate people who support that bloo.. war against terrorism, America and Israel are the biggest terrorists. There should be a war against America. Let me add to Ahmedenijads comment about Israel that not just Israel but both these countries America and Israel should be wiped off from the map of the world.

Dr. Aafia Siddiqui under custody in Afghanistan: Lawyer Reply with quote
Updated at: 1330 PST, Monday, August 04, 2008
ISLAMABAD: Five years after her disappearance, MIT-trained Pakistani neuroscientist, accused of belonging to an Al-Qaeda cell based in Boston, is alive and in custody in Afghanistan, as her family attorney said, “It has been confirmed by the FBI that Aafia Siddiqi is alive.

Talking to Geo News on phone from US, Elaine Whitfield Sharp, a lawyer for Siddiqi’s family said she spoke to an FBI official on August 1, who said, “She is injured but alive, and she is in Afghanistan, but the officials didn’t tell under whose custody Dr. Aafia Siddiqui is held at present.”

Elaine Whitfield Sharp said that she herself and Aafia’s family were worried about the well being of the held Aafia. To a question, She said that Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s family members were longing for meeting Aafia and getting confirmed that it was actually Aafia besides for her release.

The lawyer further said that US officials and the US embassy in Afghanistan have been approached through post, e-mail and telephone requesting grant of permission to her family members meeting Aafia, but to no avail thus far. On the other hand, her family members have started receiving threats after the filing a case for the recovery of Dr. Aafia in the Islamabad High Court.

Irony of fate is that our innocent citizens are being kidnapped from our very own country and handed over to american beasts, I could imagine this for men but not atleast with a woman with three children and when she has got a 6 months old infant.

This incident shows one of the most unfortunate things that have been going on in Musharaff's regime, being a soverign country we are still not able to protect our own citizens . its amazing how coward this man is and the sad part is that he was a general in our army, the institution that is supposed to protect our country and its citizens.

Hi Friends,

Dr.Afia incidence is a slap on the face of brave commando Musharraf. He has shown his mentality and coward ness. Honestly speaking when we have shameless leaders like Musharraf we should expect worse things like that. He is the man who can sell the whole nation to please his masters. He has forgotten one thing that there is one Super power Allah and he will have to face Him one day.

THIS IS A LETTER PUBLISHED IN TODAYS DAWN

Quote:
Who killed Aafia’s baby?

THIS refers to your editorial, ‘Dr Aafia’s strange case’ (Aug 9) and the report, ‘Government asked to move ICJ in Aafia case’ regarding the demands raised by the Judicial Activism Panel (JAP) in Islamabad and Lahore, of Aug 8.

It was unspeakably horrifying to learn from the JAP statement that a six-month-old child of the incarcerated Pakistani neuroscientist was murdered during their detention.

It will be recalled that Dr Aafia Siddiqui and her three kids, who were between the ages of four months and seven years at the time, were handed over to the Americans five years ago, according to Pakistani interior ministry officials, as reported then.

After that there was no news and they were obviously being held by the FBI, most probably at Bagram in Afghanistan.

After much hue and cry began to be raised since the July 7 press conference by a British woman journalist, the Americans apparently decided to cook up another story about her attacking their men with a gun and getting shot in the foot herself.

After that, she was immediately whisked away to New York and indicted in a court.

While her own lawyer Elaine Sharp is not allowed to meet her, the court appointed a pro-bono lawyer, Elizabeth M. Fink, to defend her.

Ms Fink asked how could the woman weighing a mere 90 pounds attack Americans with a gun?

Judge Ronald Ellis expressed surprise as to how she was extradited to the US so quickly when it takes longer to extradite people within two locations inside New York? (Aug 7).

Meanwhile, Aafia’s elder sister Dr Fauzia Siddiqui, who is here from the US to raise support for the former, has reportedly said that Aafia has been subjected to plastic surgery.

The only reason for that appears to be the Americans’ attempt to remove signs of torture that may have become visible on her face.

All of this goes to show the American agency/army has been acting in a very inhumane and highly biased manner.

I wholeheartedly support your concern about her getting justice and the JAP demand that Dr Siddiqui’s case should be put before the International Court of Justice, because that is the one place where she could find justice.

Also, Pakistani women’s rights organisations must lead the nation in ensuring justice for Aafia Siddiqui and her children.

Dr. Afia Siddiqui, who studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology,

US, for about 10 years and did her PhD in genetics, returned to Pakistan in 2002. Having

failed to get a suitable job, she again visited the US on a valid visa in February 2003 to

search for a job and to submit an application to the US immigration authorities. She

moved there freely and came back to Karachi by the end of February 2003 after renting

a post office box in her name in Maryland for the receipt of her mail. It has been claimed

by the FBI (Newsweek International, June 23, 2003, issue) that the box was hired for

one Mr Majid Khan, an alleged member of Al Qaeda residing in Baltimore.

By the Mercy of Our so called PRESIDENT MUSH #~$!~#@!$#~##~#!$ !!

Another sad part of the whole story is that we still have the same man as our president and people like chaudree brothers and other members of this devil group are boldly supporting him. InshahAllah Mr. Musharaf will soon have what he deserves along with his supporters.

Prayers for Dr. Afia and all of the other people who are missing and have been sold to Americans.
