Does 'Media' Play its Role by following Ethical Values??

Being a student of Journalism and a memeber of this honorable forum, I would like to take opportunity to submit a topic "Media role in Pakistan" to discuss with friends at this valued forum:

Now a days when Media is free.........here is a question arised due to observed that, some how media is becoming bias in reporting (Mazhar Abbas The Secretary General "Pakistan Union of Journalists" an autonomy body of Journalists, admitted on-air himself during a talk show "Capital Talk" held yesterday May 13 2008. that, "our journalists may became partial during reporting") reporting like an advertisment campaign that, Is media follow the following code of ethics or not????

CODE OF ETHICS

Seek Truth and Report it as Fully as Possible
Inform yourself continuously so you in turn can inform, engage, and educate the public in a clear and compelling way on significant issues.
Be honest, fair, and courageous in gathering, reporting, and interpreting accurate information.
Distinguish between advocacy and news reporting.
Analysis and commentary should be labeled and not misrepresent fact or context
Avoid stereotyping by race, gender, age, religion, ethnicity, geography,

Give voice to the voiceless.
Hold the powerful accountable.

Act Independently
Guard vigorously the essential stewardship role a free press plays in an open society.
Deny favored treatment to advertisers and special interests and resist their pressure
to influence news coverage.
Seek out and disseminate competing perspectives without being unduly influenced by those who would use their power or position counter to the public interest.
Remain free of associations and activities that may compromise your integrity or damage your credibility.
Recognize that good ethical decisions require individual responsibility enriched by collaborative efforts.

Minimize Harm
Be compassionate for those affected by your actions.
Treat sources, subjects, and colleagues as human beings deserving of respect, not merely as means to your journalistic ends.
Recognize that gathering and reporting information may cause harm or discomfort, but balance those negatives by choosing alternatives that maximize your goal of truthtelling.
Be sensitive when seeking or using interviews or photographs of those
affected by tragedy or grief.
Recognize that gathering and reporting information may cause harm or discomfort.
Pursuit of the news is not a license for arrogance.

Yes but sometime is biased

It depends if it is a reliable media source

Free & fair media is the need of time & specially for the countries like pakistan awareness of the people is depending on media.Literacy ratio is the problem for the print media but now a days through television people are well informed about anything hapenning in the country & in the world.Well & good to say all this but there is a big resposibiliy of the media to be fair(Impartial & un biased),not objective,do not sentationalise(unnecessarilly)& keep theirselves away from Yellow journalism.While covering news(mostly inside the county) they should keep in their mind the impact & repercussions of News they are going to print,broadcact or telecast.And it is very important rightnow in Pakistan because of the political situation,non existance of free& fair judiciary,education level(not only academic)allocation of wealth & most of all the price hike of even basic necessaties of people.Due to the double standards,a big difference between rich & poors & socio economics injustice in the Pakistan society their nerves are at the edge.there are many different media sources launched by the individuals having their own political & personal interests,which they are projecting & supporting through those media sources.But there are also some reputable,recognised & reliable media sources which is doing their job well.There is agreat importance of the media specially when come to the national interest of the country but in the meatime they should be more responsible.Code of ethics should always be respected but it does not mean that there should be any political or govermental control.

I think media is also behaving like a dictator and most anchor persons dont allow people to disagree with them. They talk about issues which are not the problems of poor people. Our media dont present the clear picture of any issue it only shows which they think right and they do not show people the other side of the picture.

I think the media hand is on our pulse.we as a nation like sensationalism & glamourism of the events.I cannot blame my nation because there is very little in their lives to enjoy.They are going through lot of Political & social problems eg.Judicial,hike of prices,unemployment,terorism etc.We should overcome our these problems collectively through chosing of a new political system & new (The old ones are failed to deliver.Lack of capabilities,corruption,sincerity etc) polititions.Media is giving us what make us watching it.A good media & quality journalism is that they should portray the events impartially un objectively & with the sincerity to educate the nation about what is happening in the country.media should project the optimism in the nation not always to discourage them.There are lot of serious people in our country,they have pain of n ation intheir hearts as well they are patriots.but there are also a lot new tv channels & print media that they just run as industry & to make money in this process often they give birth to sensationalism,they over react & try to glamourise even serious issues,but we cannot blame them we have to realise as a nation what we like & what we don,t & let them feel our feelings.In the meantime as the world is becoming a global village the media in Pakistan has developed & it is growing which is a possitive sign.Only how to make them realise that they with making money they should also serve the nation with quality journalism.Mostly for our journalist this quick developement & growth of media were unexpected therefore find it sometime difficult to cope up & get along with it.In the meantime I am optimist & assure that those they are serious proffessionals,loyal to this nation & patriot will play their possitive role.We know & accept the importance & role of media in our society.

In my point of views, in current situations only we have one source to find out truth is media.

Print media is only providing us general informations about current affairs, but electoric media is showing us the proper findings of an issue.

So, in my point of view Pakistani media is doing well.

yes its all goood

Media by at large is the reflection of our people & society.There are also very competent & true journalists trying to inform & educate us as well as to enlightens the national problems we are facing.We don,t have to blame media only we ourself want to see & hear which suits our immiginatiions,ambitions & wishes which is a kind of escape for us from the reality.We are sticking our heads in sand,we are becoming more & more pascimist.although if we believes on Allah & Islam we should be more optimists.In the meantime we should not only vote & leave it to the polititions,we as a nation have to take innitiative as well as to believe that real power still lies in our hands & those they don,t deliver or betray us we should collective refuse him & raise against him.Good media can only potray the problems whereas we have to force the our representatives to solve those problems.We have to keep a check & balance as a nation on those we have elected,we just can,t leave them to get our votes & betray our mandates.
