| Dir People Will Resist Army Arrival In Area |
|
Chakdarra -- There is no militant or subversive element in Lower Dir. The statement issued by the provincial government is irresponsible and condemnable [in this regard]. Strong protest will be lodged upon the arrival of Army in the area. Instead of wasting resources over the Army, number of police personnel should be increased and provided with more facilities. The police personnel sent to Swat should be immediately called back to Dir. The incident of Timargara Zalm Bridge is not an act of terrorism; rather it is committed by the smugglers.
These views have been expressed by Adezai Qaumi Jirga [national assembly of elders] while addressing a crowded press conference after an emergency meeting. Bakhat Bedar Khan, Chairman of Jirga and former provincial minister, Hamyun Khan, secretary general, Ikram Ghani, Maulana Ghulamullah Haqqani, Syed Saltanat Yar Advocate, Gul Muhammad, Abdur Rahman, Maulana Gul Rahim alias Darbar, Maulvi Haji Nawab, Syed Nabi Bakash Mirza and others said that Lower Dir and specially the Tehsil of Adezai is a peaceful area. The atmosphere of peace is quite satisfactory here. The people of Lower Dir are united and are supporting Qaumi Jirga. Neither shall we allow any militant to enter our area, nor can we tolerate Army in the area. They made it clear to the provincial government that if the efforts are made to deploy Army here, the people of Lower Dir will strongly protest and resist this move.
They demanded from the government to immediately call back the policemen of Dir from Swat. It is because, if 50 thousand soldiers cannot establish peace in Swat, our sons should not be got killed [made fodder of war]. While describing the detail of Timargara Zalm Bridge incident, they said that it is not an act of terrorism; rather it has happened due to smuggling.
