Win/Loss Record - Pakistan holds the whipping hand over India, having won 62% of all ODI clashes between the two nations. In fact Pakistan have dominated India in every decade since ODIs began the 70s (67%), the 80s (68%), the 90s (60%) and the 00s (57%). This last decade, for the first time Pakistani dominance has fallen below the 60% mark and the decade isn't over yet. If India can win this ODI series 5-0 then they will have become the more dominant team in the 00s with a 51% win percentage over Pakistan.

Captaincy record - The top 3 most successful captains in ODIs between Pakistan and India are all from Pakistan, this shouldn't really come as a surprise since Pakistan have always dominated games between these two nations. Imran's cornered tigers top the list winning more than 4 out of every 5 games, whilst Wasim's mean green machine comes in second winning more than 7 out of every 10 games. Inzamam's Tableeghi Jamaat only managed to win just over half of the games they played, giving him the worst record for a Pakistani who has captained more than 10 (or 9) games vs India. India's most successful captains are Gavaskar and Dravid and there's not much between them as far as results go. Batting Records - India have always been known as the stronger batting side and currently (on paper) they are far and away a better batting side than Pakistan. This is reflected by the fact that India has 4 first team ODI batsmen averaging over 35 vs Pakistan, whilst Pakistan only has one regular first team batsman who averages over 35 against India. Both teams also have some wild cards in Uthappa, Sharma, Misbah and Fawad who havent played much (or at all) against their greatest rivals and now have the chance to become heroes. Bowling Records - Whilst India are known for their batting, Pakistan are famed for their bowling but apart from Akhtar and Afridi, the current Pakistani bowling attack is lacking experience vs India. Gul only has 3 ODIs vs India and Rehman, Tanvir and Fawad have never bowled against the Indians. Pakistan are missing the experience of Rana, Sami and Razzaq whilst the Indians are missing Nehra, Agarkar and Kumble. On paper the Pakistani bowling combination of Rehman, Afridi, Akhtar, Gul and Asif would seem to have the edge over the Indian attack but in practise Pak-Indo matches dont pan out like that. As can be seen from the bowling averages below, it's usually the bat which decides the outcome of these high scoring games, especially on the flat decks of Asia. Preview - Pakistani and Indian cricket is entering a new era with new captains and new personnel. Fresh young faces have replaced many of the well known names of the last decade.

The Indian batting looks strong and the Pakistani bowling looks up to the task of keeping the Indian batsmen in check. However the Indians have a good bowling attack up their sleeves too, whilst the Pakistanis only have a brittle and fragile batting lineup to face the Indian bowlers. The Pakistani batting may end up being the deciding factor between the two teams.

If India win this series 5-0 then they will have turned the tables on Pakistan and for the first time in their history become the more dominant ODI team. Malik and the boys will have to knuckle down and try to win this series to ensure Pakistan maintains it's dominance over India during the 00s decade too!!
