PESHAWAR: At least 11 people were killed and 40 others injured in a powerful blast at a five-star hotel in Peshawar area of Saddar at Khyber Road, Geo News reported Tuesday.

The injured include mainly the servants of the hotel.

According to Geo News correspondent, the blast was so powerful that windowpanes of the nearby buildings broke. Soon after the blast, the power supply to the area has been suspended. The whole area is plunged into darkness.

The blast site is awash with smoke. The building caught fire soon after the blast. Several vehicles were destroyed in the blast. The sounds of gunshots are still being heard in the area.

At least 40 injured were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital.

A large number of security personnel arrived on the spot and cordoned off the area. Khyber Road has been blocked for traffic.

According to Geo News correspondent, miscreants drove two vehicles towards the hotel; however, they found barricades there, they turned to firing and moved to the mosque where the blast occurred.

According to sources, the extremists attacked the check post of the security guards.

Let these our Western Tout Interior Minister to disclose the name of the arrested people in many such incidents. Why they are so apologetic about the hidden hands behind these terrible incidents. Why not a single culprit was presented in front of mediaa or public. Why the beat about the bush.If few of such culprits are publically harshlly punished other will get the "Ibrat" from it.You see lot of our European guests visited us & stayed in this Hotel. They called me condolled with me,they were condemning it & they were feeling pitty about this incident. Now How can we convince, compell or persuade our foreign friends about Pakistan(For Promoting, highlighting & presenting) image as a peacefull country. Why the hell we are facing all this, our Pakistanis are dieing, our infrastructure is destroyed & our image is tornished. They should leave their offices if they are not capable to save our citizens life, our economy & our positive image. Why the hell our presedent is travelling every 20days out of 30 around the world at the cost of this nation. What is our Puppet PM doing. How is the Western tout & agent Rahman Malik just boasting & bragging but fails to deliver. They are claiming of arresting or killing terrorists just verbally without any name, data or photo of them.Rahman Malik have accused the Indians backing 6 funding these terrorists in the Parliament then where are the evidences & proofs of his claim? What is holding them not to public it or bring it in front of the media. How long they will sell us for the fools. We as a nation should allow the to take us for a ride or for granted.

Deaths in Peshawar gun battle

Two people were killed when a hand grenade was thrown at police in the outskirts of Peshawar [AFP]

At least two people are reported to have been killed in an exchange of fire between security forces and armed men in the Pakistani city of Peshawar.

The gunfight on Thursday came hours after a blast in the outskirt of the city killed at least two people and wounded 13 others.

Al Jazeera's Kamal Hyder, reporting from Islamabad, said the shooting "went on for 15 to 20 minutes before the Pakistani military brought the situation under control".

Hyder said the fighting occured close to the Pearl Continental hotel where a suicide attack on Tuesday killed at least 15 people.

Hours earlier, an attacker hurled a grenade at a police van near a checkpoint on the outskirts of the city killing two people and wounding 13 others including eight policemen.

"When police gathered, a suicide bomber blew himself up. One civilian was killed." Mohammed Ejaz, a Peshawar police officer, said, adding: "Fourteen people were injured, eight of them policemen."

Growing fears

Doctor Mohammad Shahid, of Peshawar's main Lady Reading hospital, later said that one of the injured had also died.

"One person died in the hospital - he was a civilian - and three are still in a critical condition, including two policemen," he said.

Pakistan has recently been hit by a string of bomb blasts linked to the Taliban as fears grow that the group is exacting revenge for a six-week military offensive by the country's military against its fighters in three northwest districts.

Peshawar is the capital of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) where Pakistani government forces have battled fighters loyal to the Taliban in recent weeks.

The Pakistani military launched its offensive in the NWFP after Taliban fighters violated a deal that was to see stricter implementation of Islamic law for the region's three million people in exchange for peace.

More than a dozen bomb attacks have killed at least 100 people across Pakistan since the Pakistani military began its offensive in the NWFP in late April.

All Taliban Will die soon, we all Pakistani will through them out of our mother land and send them back to there own (India, Afganistan and Israel) form where they are originally from.

Pakistan is a a modern Islamic society and Taliban interpretation of Islam is absolutely incorrect, they criminally involved to confuse our young people, Taliban still clean there A** with stones and they wants to impose such laws in the country.

India, Israel and Afghanistan are playing a key rule for all these terrorist acts in Pakistan, i believe they'll very soon get the counter response from our forces. if we don't give them response they'll continue to disturb us.

All the people around the world condemn the attack and offer their condolences to the continuous loss Pakistan is going through

Itís high time to play the blaming game for political interest coz itís not going to give any results but the chaos will continue
Serious thought should be give for the reason followed by taking action accordingly

US is using its so called allies /friends as tissue paper
Once its purpose is done tissue is flushed to keep itself clean

Why is the Taleban now considered bad?
When they were in Afghanistan, they were good and Pakistan's friends, they are considered good enough to rule a Muslim Afghanistan, but not a Muslim Pakistan.
If I remember correctly Pakistan was Taleban's greatest supporter and even offered them sanctuary when NATO was battling them post 9/11. Twisted Evil

Are these people really muslims Reply with quote
I find it hard to believe that people behind these attacks are muslims. I dont think a muslim will go into a mosque during jumma prayers and blow himself up thinking that he will be a martyr. The government and the intelligence especially need to work harder to find out about the masterminds behind these atrocities. May Allah bless Pakistan.

Many dead in Pakistan market blast

An explosion has ripped through a market in the Pakistani city of Dera Ismail Khan in the North West Frontier Province, killing at least eight people and wounding about 50, a government official has said.

Shortly after the blast on Sunday, one person was arrested on suspicion of involvement.

The explosion occurred as fighting between the Pakistani army and Taliban fighters continued in Swat valley in the same province.

Pakistan's military extended its offensive into South Waziristan on Saturday, where the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, or the Pakistani Taliban, is based.

In a seperate incident on Sunday, a suspected US missile strike killed five people in South Waziristan.

James Bays, Al Jazeera's correspondent in Islamabad, said: "We understand it was not a suicide bomb. It was planted in a rickshaw in a very busy market area near one of the main bus stops in Dera Ismail Khan.

"It seems to have been timed to kill as many people as possible. Sunday is a holiday here. Many people were shopping at the time of the explosion. We hear that three shops in the market have been completely destroyed.

"Some authorities here fear that we are in a sustained bombing campaign that is taking place across Pakistan .. and are on the very highest alert," Bays said.

Dera Ismail Khan is not far from North and South Waziristan where the Pakistani military has been using air strikes and artillery to bombard a strong hold of the Mehsud tribe aimed at Baitullah Mehsud, whom the Pakistani authorities see as their most wanted man.

Uhhhh, if you truly believe Taliban should be in place they were sent from then it was Benazir Bhutto who sent them from Pakistan to Afghanistan, and not the other way round. Afghanistan has got better things to do than think about Pakistan, buddy.

Exactly! Finally someone who knows the truth. Or shall I say; Who accepts the truth. Smile
