KARACHI: Pakistan are expected to take a decision on their dope-tainted pacer Mohammad Asif’s misadventure in Dubai where he was detained for allegedly carrying a banned substance following today’s meeting of a ‘fact-finding’ committee.
A member of the committee told ‘The News’ on Wednesday that reports received from the Dubai authorities have been carefully reviewed and now Asia has been summoned for a hearing in Lahore today.
“We have received reports from Dubai regarding Asif’s detention there and will now be hearing the player’s side of the story,” said Shafqat Naghmi, one of the committee members.
Naghmi, who is the chief operating officer of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), said that the committee might reach a verdict after today’s hearing.
The Dubai case is now just a minor issue for Asif, who is facing a ban after failing a dope test.
Thursday is a action-packed day for the country’s cricket officials as the Board chief Nasim Ashraf will be participating in a make-or-break teleconference aimed at deciding the fate of Champions Trophy today.
Other senior officials will be meeting with the Pakistan team captain Shoaib Malik, manager Talat Ali and national selectors to review the Asia Cup defeat.
The PCB’s International Cricket Committee will grill the team officials and selectors over Pakistan’s below-par showing in the Asia Cup and will also question them on future international assignments.
