Army Deployment Is Under Consideration In Upper Dir

Peshawar -- Viewing the situation of Swat and Bajuar, the provincial government has showed intention to declare Lower Dir and Upper Dir as a sensitive area owing to the Taliban [presence] and the suggestion to deploy Army in both of these districts is under consideration. The skirmishes have ensued between the Taliban and the security forces in Swat after a bad patch crept in the peace deal.
The sources informed that activities of the local Taliban are on the rise in Bajuar as well. Hence there is a possibility of including the districts of Upper Dir and Lower Dir among the sensitive areas in this regard. In the said districts, some local people issued closure notices to the CD shops in Dir Timargara, a few days ago. At this the local Jirga [assembly of elders] announced action against the people involved in subversion.

The sources informed that owing to increasing influence of the local Taliban in Bajuar and Swat, there are possibilities of increase in the activities of the local Taliban in the said districts. Keeping in mind the possible activities, the provincial government has directed to tighten security on the borders of these districts. While the district coordination officers [DCOs] have been directed to deal with the elements involved in the possible subversion with an iron hand.
