~ Akora Khattak ~

Akora Khattak (اکوڑہ خٹک) is a city along the Grand Trunk Road, in the Nowshera District, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan.

Akora Khattak is the birthplace and burial place of the famous poet Khushal Khan Khattak. The Khushal Khan Khattak Memorial Library has been constructed there to commemorate the poet.

Akora Khattak is named after Malik Akor Khan the grandfather of the great warrior and Pushto poet Khushal Khan Khattak.

In 1581 Mughal emperor ‘Jalal-ud-din Muhammad Akbar’ came to Peshawar to finish the mutiny of his brother ‘Mirza Hakeem’ and stayed there for a few years. During this stay, he met (jarga) with all the tribal chiefs for the betterment of the area. In the meeting the name of Malik Akor Khan often came up. It was reported to the emperor that Malik Akor Khan was a robber and often robbed the troops on the highway. He lived at Neelab (Nizampur) " Where I Live Yet " and continually created problems for the Mughal government. The emperor Jalal-ud-din Mohammad Akbar decided to resolve this problem by making Malik Akor Khan a government servant and charged him with the responsibility of collecting tolls from the caravans on the crossing of the Indus at Attock.

Khushal Khan Khattak - The Warrior and the Poet

Khushal Khan Khattak was born at Akora Khattak district Nowshera in 1613. He was an intelligent and bold person from childhood. His father Shahbaz Khan was killed in a tribal clash on 4th January, 1641. Mughal Emperor Shahjehan was the ruler of India during that period. Shahjehan had great regard for Khushal Khan Khattak due to the guts that he possessed. Located 1 Km away from his grave on the GT road.

He is also called with the name of Baba-e-Pushto. His poetry consists of more than 45,000 poems. According to some historians the number of books written by him is more than 200. But the books, which enjoyed more fame, are Baz Nama, Fazal Nama, Distar Nama and Farrah Nama. The Mazar of Khushal Khan Khattak is situated near the Railway Station of Akora Khattak in Nowshera district.

Forced to flee after the Mughals reasserted control, he died on February 25, 1689 at Dambara, many years after attempting to unite the various Pakhtun tribes together. It is believed that Khattak had gone on an expedition to "Tirah", a rugged mountainous area in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where he died. People searched for him and found his dead body a number of days laters with his sword and the carcass of his horse (known as "Silai" in Pashto, which means Wind). His death symbolises his courage and his love for his (Pakhtun) motherland.

The Mazar (tomb) of Khushal Khan Khattak is situated near the Railway Station of Akora Khattak in the Nowshera district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in Pakistan.

Khushal Khan Khattak Memorial Library

Khushal Khan Khattak Memorial Library is a public library in Akora Khattak, Pakistan. The library has been constructed in the memory of the famous poet Khushal Khan Khattak, who was born in Akora Khattak. The library was established in 1994. It is considered to be out of reach for people because of its location in a small city. The Library has a museum, which is a sub-section of Peshawar Museum. It also has an auditorium which is used by district government councillors as their meeting place.

Misri banda -Akora Khattak Bridge

The Bridge is under construction and will connect Misri Banda and surroundings to Akora Khattak and GT Road, and will link Akora Khattak to Motorway.
Chair left is getting replaced by a Wali Bridge that might complete soon.

This will decrease the longest route to Misri Banda,
that was before through Nowshera & Jehangira & each side turn possibly makes u drive more than 50Km of distance.
