| 4,574 IT labs to be set up in Punjab schools |

LAHORE: The Punjab government would establish 4,574 IT laboratories in secondary and higher secondary schools in the province at a cost of Rs 4,929 million.
The decision was made after the Punjab government finalised a project of introducing the IT education at secondary and higher secondary levels in the whole of the province, said Senior Minister Raja Riaz while speaking at a conference on the Education Sector Reforms. Raja Riaz said under the mid term development framework 2008-09, 1,050 schools would be established/upgraded while provision of libraries in 3,251 schools and establishment of 144 model schools, including dormitories for vulnerable group students, were planned in the school education sector.
He also said that under the MTDF targets for higher education, rehabilitation/renovation of 70 public sector colleges under missing facilities programme, establishment/ upgrading of 48 colleges and new stream of 30 model colleges was also under way. These interventions are geared towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals before 2015, he added.
